Yard Goats Sink Ponies with Three-Run Sixth
Hartford, CT – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies fell 3-1 to the Hartford Yard Goats in the rubber game of the three-game series at Dunkin’ Donuts Park. The Yard Goats three runs in the sixth off reliever Austin McGeorge via a two-run single from Willie Abreu and an RBI groundout from Alan Trejo proved enough to hold on for the victory
Right-handed starter Luc Rennie pitched five no-hit frames in his Rumble Ponies debut, walking two and striking out nine. Rennie threw 86 pitches, 56 for strikes, after being added from the St. Lucie roster today.
McGeorge takes the loss (0-2) while Yard Goats starter Rico Garcia earned his Eastern League best 8th win of the year (8-1). Garcia allowed only three hits and one run over six. Hartford closer Ben Bowden struck out the side in the ninth for his EL leading 19th save of the year.
Binghamton did take the early 1-0 lead in the fifth after an Ali Sanchez leadoff double. Sanchez moved to third on a wild pitch and Braxton Lee drove him home with a sac fly to left. The Ponies only scored six runs over the three-game set.
The Rumble Ponies finish their six-game road trip 2-4. They are off Monday and return home to open up a six-game homestand Tuesday night against the Trenton Thunder. First pitch is at 6:35PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and on the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show begins at 6:20PM.
