TONIGHT: The Binghamton Rumble Ponies continue their three-game series against the Trenton Thunder tonight at NYSEG Stadium. The Ponies pulled out a thrilling 7-6 win in the series-opener Tuesday night. Mike Paez had the walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded to drive home David Thompson with the winning run.
PAEZ WALK-OFF HEROICS: Last night’s walk-off single by Mike Paez was the second walk-off hit for the second basemen this season. In the home-opener on 4/11, Paez hit the walk-off two-run single against Erie to give the Ponies a 4-3 win.
TIGHT EASTERN DIVISION RACE: The Rumble Ponies remined in fourth place in the Eastern Division, but gained a game on first-place Hartford. They are now a game back of the Yard Goats and a half-game behind Trenton and Reading for second place.
DELIVERING WITH THE BASES LOADED: The Rumble Ponies scored all seven of their runs last night with the bases loaded. Braxton Lee, Quinn Brodey, and Jason Krizan all had two-run singles with two out. Mike Paez hit the walk-off single in the ninth with the bases full.
PATIENCE AT THE PLATE: The Ponies walked 8 times last night against Trenton pitching.
LEE HAS BEST AVG IN EL: Braxton Lee was 3-4 Tuesday night with 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, and a walk. Since rejoining the Ponies from Triple-A Syracuse on May 30th, he is hitting .355 (11-37) with 4 RBI, 4 BB, and 3 runs scored. He is now leading the Eastern League with a .312 average for the season, with 49 hits and 22 RBI.
THOMPSON’S HOT START: David Thompson was 3-4 with two runs scored last night. Thompson already has had two games where he has finished with three hits since joining the team on 5/31. Thompson has also gotten a hit in eight of the nine games he’s played in a Rumble Ponies uniform.
BINGHAMTON STUD MUFFINS ON ESPN: This past Saturday the Rumble Ponies were recognized in ESPN’s “Minor Leaguer Promotion of the Week” for the “What if Night - Binghamton Stud Muffins” evening this Friday against the Altoona Curve. The “Stud Muffins” were the runner up name in the 2016 “Name the team” vote resulting in the Binghamton Mets being rebranded as the Binghamton Rumble Ponies!
COMING UP: The Rumble Ponies wrap up their three-game series with the Thunder Thursday, with first pitch beginning at 6:35PM. Then the Ponies continue their six-game homestand opening up a three-game set with the Altoona Curve beginning Friday night at 7:05PM.
