Paez Walks-Off Ponies to Win over Thunder
Binghamton, NY – Mike Paez hit the walk-off RBI single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to give the Ponies a 7-6 win over the Trenton Thunder on Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium. It scored David Thompson with the game-winning run from third. It’s Paez second walk-off hit of the season after hitting a walk-off two-run single in the home-opener against Erie.
The Ponies (33-25) scored all seven of their runs with the bases loaded, six of which came with two out. Their first six runs came via two-run singles from Braxton Lee and Quinn Brodey as part of a four-run sixth. Then Jason Krizan hit a two-run single that put the Ponies on top 6-5 in the eighth.
The Thunder (34-25) were resilient as they came back from a 4-2 deficit to take a 5-4 lead in the seventh and evened the score at six with two out in the ninth.
Lee finished 3-4 with two runs scored, two RBI, and a walk. David Thompson also had three hits and runs scored with a walk.
Ponies lefty David Peterson made his longest start of the year going six and a third innings, charged with four runs on five hits in the no-decision. Matt Blackham ended up with the win (3-1) while Daniel Alvarez took the loss (5-1).
The Thunder got on the board first on a two-run homer from Chris Gittens off of Peterson, his 11th of the year.
The two teams continue their three-game series Wednesday night from NYSEG Stadium with first pitch at 6:35PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and on the Binghamton Rumble Ponies Channel on TuneIn. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show begins at 6:20PM.
POSTGAME NOTES: The Rumble Ponies are now 3-1 in walk-off contests this year…Binghamton is also now 12-6 in series-openers…Paez finished 2-4 with a run, an RBI, and a walk…Trenton pitchers walked 11 batters on the evening.
