TEBOW HOMERS IN SYRACUSE LOSS

Buffalo, NY (June 28, 2019) - The Syracuse Mets fell a run short despite a late rally in a 3-2 loss to the Buffalo Bisons on Friday night at Sahlen Field. Tim Tebow homered for Syracuse in the game.

Buffalo (41-38) struck first in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, Socrates Brito singled. After a Jonathan Davis fly out to right field, Jordan Patterson hit a two-run home run over the right-center-field wall, giving the Bisons a 2-0 lead.

Syracuse (39-41) responded in the top of the second. With two outs, Tebow hit an opposite-field home run to left field that cut the Buffalo edge to one, 2-1.

The Bisons extended their lead in the seventh. Davis led off with a double. Two batters later, Patrick Kivlehan singled to center field, scoring Davis for a 3-1 Buffalo advantage.

The Mets came right back in the eighth. Arismendy Alcantara singled, Luis Guillorme walked, and Rubén Tejada singled to load the bases. After Dilson Herrera struck out, Danny Espinosa hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Alcantara to pull the Mets within one, 3-2. René Rivera then shot a ball to the right-field warning track, but it was caught, ending the frame.

Syracuse had the tying run at second base with one out in the ninth, but Buffalo reliever Justin Shafer struck out back-to-back batters to end the game.

The Mets and Bisons continue their three-game series on Saturday night. LHP Anthony Kay will throw for Syracuse opposite LHP Thomas Pannone for Buffalo. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
