Sea Dogs Rally for Game 1 Win over Ponies
Binghamton, NY - Portland’s Joey Curletta hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the top of the seventh off Matt Blackham to put the Sea Dogs ahead 8-7, and would go on to win by that final, taking the first two games of the series. Bobby Dalbec also hit two more solo home runs, the second straight day he has hit two homers, and his fourth solo shot of the series. He now has 12 home runs on the year and 31 RBI.
The Ponies were ahead 5-1 after a five-run first and 6-1 after four. The Sea Dogs bega their comeback in the fifth with Josh Tobias hitting a three-run homer and Dalbec adding a solo homer to cut the Ponies lead to 6-5. Mike Paez then hit his second homer of the year in the sixth to put the Ponies up two before Portland mounted their seventh inning comeback against Matt Blackham. Blackham takes the loss (2-1) and Brian Ellington gets the win in relief (2-0).
Tommy Wilson made his second start of the year for the Ponies allowing five runs over four and two thirds innings in the no-decision. Portland hit four home runs in total in the game which accounted for all their runs and have ten over the first two games of the series.
POSTGAME NOTES: The Ponies drop to 1-4 against the Sea Dogs this year at NYSEG Stadium and 5-6 against Portland overall this season.
