Syracuse, NY (June 6, 2019) - The Syracuse Mets fell, 9-0, to the Rochester Red Wings for their third straight loss at NBT Bank Stadium Thursday night. Luis Guillorme
reached base three times for Syracuse in the loss.
Rochester (23-33) got things started in the top of the second inning with two runs. LaMonte Wade Jr. doubled to bring home Jake Cave from second base for the first
run, and then Randy Cesar singled up the middle to drive in Wade Jr. to put the Red Wings up, 2-0.
In the third, Zander Wiel extended the Red Wings lead to 4-0 with a two-run homer. Two batters later, Wade Jr. sent Cave home again, this time on an RBI groundout
to push Rochester ahead, 5-0.
The Wings added another run in the fourth inning. With Tomas Telis at second base, Nick Gordon doubled, to push the advantage to 6-0.
Mets relief pitcher Louis Coleman recorded the final two outs of the fourth inning. The LSU right-handed pitcher struck out the first four batters he faced before
allowing a walk and a two-run home run to Jordany Valdespin, which made it an 8-0 ballgame in the fifth inning.
Sean Poppen was excellent as the starter for the Red Wings. He went seven scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out eight batters.
Syracuse (29-30) came closest to scoring in the bottom of the eighth. Grégor Blanco led off the frame with a double for the Mets and moved to third on a wild pitch
but was stranded there.
Brent Rooker added another insurance run for Rochester in the top of the ninth on an RBI single that scored Cave to make it 9-0 Red Wings.
Syracuse now starts a road series with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Friday night. The Mets will play four games in three days against the North Division-leading
RailRiders, including a double-header Sunday. First pitch on Friday is at 6:35 p.m.
