Buffalo, NY (June 29, 2019) - The Syracuse Mets lost to the Buffalo Bisons, 9-3, on Saturday night at Sahlen Field. The Mets left seven runners on base and went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
Syracuse (39-42) scored it’s first run in the top of the fourth. Dilson Herrera doubled with one out, and René Rivera singled him home with two outs to make the score 4-1.
The Bisons added three more runs in the sixth. Burns got a hold of his second home run of the day and eighth of the season to push the lead to 5-1. Alen Hanson and Bo Bichette both followed with walks, placing runners at first and second base for Socrates Brito who tripled, scoring both runners for a six-run advantage, 7-1.
Buffalo extended its lead in the seventh. Kivlehan led off with a triple and scored on a Jordan Patterson single to make it an 8-1 ballgame. Patterson advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a fly out to center field, and scored on a McGuire sacrifice fly to put the Bisons up 9-1.
The Mets scored a run in the eighth and one in the ninth thanks to home runs. Grégor Blanco led off the eighth inning with a homer over the right-field wall to trim the deficit to 9-2. Then, Rivera crushed a ball over the center-field wall to lead off the ninth inning to bring the final margin to six, 9-3.
Syracuse and Buffalo conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon. RHP Walker Lockett will be on the mound for the Mets opposite RHP Conor Fisk for the Bisons. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
