Five Rumble Ponies Named to 2019 All-Star Game Roster
BINGHAMTON, NY – Five members of the Binghamton Rumble Ponies were named today to the Eastern League All-Star Roster. RHP Harol Gonzalez, Second Basemen Sam Haggerty, Outfielder Braxton Lee, Catcher/First Basemen Patrick Mazeika, and right-handed reliever Adonis Uceta were named to the Eastern Division team by the Eastern League and the Richmond Flying Squirrels. This year’s All-Star Game will be played at The Diamond in Richmond, Virginia on Wednesday, July 10 at 7:05PM.
Gonzalez is 3-3 with a 3.41 ERA in 11 starts, highlighted by a combined no-hitter on May 8th against the Harrisburg Senators at FNB Field. It was the first no-hitter for the Binghamton franchise in nearly 13 years. For his effort, Gonzalez was named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 6th-May 12th Gonzalez has also now gone at least five innings in 26 consecutive starts dating back to June 2, 2018.
Haggerty is hitting .288 with 40 hits and 28 runs scored in 38 games. He is tied for fourth in the Eastern League with 14 stolen bases and has also drawn 29 walks. Haggerty is currently on the injured list and will not be playing in the all-star game.
Mazeika holds the mark for the longest-hitting streak this year for the Rumble Ponies. He hit safely in fifteen straight games from April 27 to May 16. He also was named Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of May 13th – May 19th in which he hit .333 (9-for-27) with four home runs, four doubles, 15 RBI’s, seven runs scored, two walks, and a .926 slugging percentage
Lee is currently hitting .293, tied for third in the Eastern League in batting average. He also has 54 hits, 24 RBI, 27 walks, and scored 24 runs with the Ponies in 56 games. He is also tied for fifth in the EL with a .373 on-base percentage. In addition, Lee has a .981 fielding percentage with four assists and has made some spectacular catches patrolling centerfield.
Uceta is 3-2 with a 2.23 ERA in 32.1IP with only 10 walks and 31 strikeouts in 19 appearances. Hitters are only hitting .211 against him. Over a span of six outings from May 19th through June 8th Uceta was 3-0 and did not allow a single run with just four walks and sixteen strikeouts, with hitters batting .095 against him.
The Rumble Ponies are tied for second with the Trenton Thunder with five players selected. The Richmond Flying Squirrels led the league with six.
