Lucrative PBA Summer Tour Gets Underway with Lubbock Sports Shootout

World-class field to compete for bonus money, incentives, seven titles live on FloBowling

LUBBOCK, Texas (June 24, 2019) – After a highly-success first half of the 2019 Go Bowling! PBA Tour season televised for the first time by FOX Sports’ network of television and social media outlets, the PBA turns its attention to a lucrative 10-event, seven-title Summer Tour that will be covered exclusively by the PBA’s other new media partner, FloBowling.

The PBA Summer Tour, which will include more than $100,000 in bonus prize money and other significant incentives, gets underway Saturday and Sunday with the Lubbock Sports Shootout, presented by Ebonite, at South Plains Lanes in Lubbock, Texas, where Dick Allen won his seventh career title earlier in the season when South Plains Lanes hosted the PBA Lubbock Sports Open.

Allen, along with his Lubbock Sports Open title-match victim, Sean Rash, will head the field of established and rising PBA stars from around the globe who will make the trip to Lubbock to kick off the Summer Tour. Also entered is Australia’s Jason Belmonte, the leading contender for 2019 PBA Player of the Year honors after winning four titles including two majors thus far in the year, and a handful of top Rookie of the Year candidates including rookie points leader Mykel Holliman of Collierville, Tennessee.

The Lubbock tournament will launch a series of events that will provide one of the most exciting summers of PBA action in recent memory. Among the highlights:

            ● The USBC Cup points competition that will reward the top five players in the series with a total of $40,000 in bonus prize money: $20,000 to the points leader, $10,000 to second and $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000 to the next three;

            ● Berths in the inaugural FloBowling ATX Invite for the top eight in Summer Tour points. The winner of that event at Dart Bowl in Austin, Texas, on Sept. 21 will win $25,000 while the other eight also will receive cash prizes;

            ● Expenses-paid trips to China for the top eight in points, where they will compete in the first professional bowling tournament ever held in China – the PBA China Tiger Cup. That event (Nov. 29-21 in Suzhou) will pay the winner $20,000. All eight PBA Tour qualifiers will cash, and a five-player team of PBA stars will bowl a match against China’s top players with the winners sharing another $15,000 bonus;

            ● Competition points earned during the Summer Tour will count toward eligibility for the 2020 DHC PBA Japan Invitational and 2020 Go Bowling! PBA Tour eligibility. While non-members are invited to enter PBA Summer Tour events (if entry slots are available), they will not earn PBA points and will not be eligible for any of the special incentives or bonuses.

            ● Titles, earnings and points all will play a role in the selection of 2019 PBA Player and Rookie of the Year winners. Rookie of the Year will receive a $2,500 cash bonus from Chuck Gardner’s Bowl4Life Foundation and a $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a youth bowler by the Foundation in the ROY’s name.

The Lubbock Sports Shootout begins with a practice session and pro-am on Friday, June 28. Competition begins Saturday with half of the field bowling an eight-game qualifying squad at 8:30 a.m. and the other half of the bowling its qualifying round at 3:30 p.m. The top one-third of the qualifiers will advance to a six-game cashers round Sunday at 8:30 a.m. The top 16 after 14 games will bowl an eight-game match play round at 12:15 p.m. with the top four players advancing to the stepladder finals at 4:15 p.m. All times are Central.
