FUN TECH UPGRADES AT PNC FIELD

Fun Tech Upgrades at PNC Field Ready for Opening Night
Virtual reality batting cage, analytics-driven speed pitch and interactive photo booth add to the fun in 2018

MOOSIC, PA (March 29, 2018)
– The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, are excited to announce a wave of technological advancements making their way to PNC Field for the 2018 season. The three exciting new interactive attractions for fans at the ballpark are a virtual reality batting cage, an advanced analytics speed pitch area and a photo station to allow fans to post special RailRiders-brand pictures and hashtags on their social media accounts.

“We are always looking to innovate and be on the cutting edge by trying things that other teams aren’t necessarily doing yet,” said RailRiders Team President/ General Manager, Josh Olerud. “These additions to the PNC Field experience continue the commitment to our fans. We want to make sure they have a fun time every single time they come out to a RailRiders game.”

The virtual reality batting cage will be available for fans starting Opening Night. “Play the Pros” is a revolutionary fan engagement platform comprised of multiple gamified VR sports products, each serving as the foundation upon which venues and consumers come together with brand sponsors in a fun and immersive fashion.
The game, inside a netted batting cage, allows fans to wear a VR headset and hit from a batter’s box against a virtual pitcher programmed for varying degrees of difficulty and can replicate major league pitch speed and motion. Players can use a regular wooden bat, or there are smaller and lighter bats available for younger users. Each bat has a small black device mounted on the knob that measures location, swing speed and other data.

Players create an avatar of themselves before their at-bat, which includes warm-up pitches before 10 pitches that are scored. Points on each fan account accumulate each time they play. Created by Monsterful VR, a Manhattan-based tech firm, the virtual reality system debuted in select ballparks across the country late last summer including at the home of the Detroit Tigers, Comerica Park. It will be located adjacent to the Hot Corner Bar on the third base side of PNC Field.

The new-and-improved speed pitch will feature Strike “The World’s First Smart Baseball”. Instead of walking away wondering if the radar gun was accurately recording their velocity, fans will step up to the brand new speed pitch station at PNC Field this season and come away with so much more information than how hard they threw. Each of the Strike baseballs has a tiny computer inside while still maintaining the same weight and balance of a standard baseball. The speed pitch will show fans not only the velocity, but also the location, rotational axis, spin and 3D trajectory of each pitch. An attendant at the speed pitch will have a device with the app to provide detailed feedback for fans on every throw.

The third technological upgrade at PNC Field for the 2018 season is the addition of Social Flash. Fans love sharing pictures and updates of their nights out at the ballpark with family and friends, and the Social Flash RANGE kiosk is going to enhance that experience even more. All it takes is just a few moments to take the photo, customize it with official RailRiders hashtags and logos and then send it to your e-mail address or cell phone where it will be ready to share with the world.

When the RailRiders recently announced additional details of “The Sandlot” Night presented by Dickson City Hyundai, the Social Flash kiosk was envisioned as adding an extra layer of fun for fans. With Sandlot-themed borders and hashtag stamps you can only find at the ballpark, fans will be able to post pictures straight to their social media accounts at one of the most fun-filled nights of the year at PNC Field.

Opening Day is just around the corner on Friday, April 6, against the Syracuse Chiefs at 7:05 p.m. To purchase tickets for Opening Day or for more information about these technology advancements, please contact the front office at (570) 969-2255.

SANDLOT NIGHT AT PNC

“The Sandlot” Night at PNC Field brings some clout with Great Hambino
Bobblehead giveaway, Hamilton “Ham” Porter appearance and autograph signing highlight fun-filled night

MOOSIC, PA – “Remember kid, there are heroes and there are legends. Heroes get remembered, but legends never die. Follow your heart [to PNC Field Saturday, July 28] kid, and you can never go wrong.”

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, are thrilled to announce that The Sandlot Night presented by Dickson City Hyundai will be taking place at PNC Field Saturday, July 28, in honor of the 25th anniversary of “The Sandlot”. The RailRiders will take on the Gwinnett Stripers, but the game on the field will just be part of the excitement at the ballpark that evening that you’ll remember for-ev-er.

“’The Sandlot’ is an all-time classic,” RailRiders Team President/ General Manager Josh Olerud explained. “Several baseball movies are beloved, and each one speaks to a different era in our lives. ‘The Sandlot’ takes us all back to those summers when we were kids with our neighborhood friends, the games we played and the bonds we formed. It reminds me a little of what we try to do at PNC Field every day.”

The first 2,500 fans through the turnstiles will receive a one-of-a-kind Hambino Bobblehead presented by Dickson City Hyundai. Patrick Renna, who played Hamilton “Ham” Porter in the film, will be making an appearance that night. In addition to throwing out a first pitch, Porter will be hamming it up with fans on the concourse signing items for those in attendance. “The Sandlot” DVD’s will be available for purchase and autographed as part of the evening.

The night will also feature giveaways by the clothing brand RSVLTS, made popular last season by Yankees slugger Aaron Judge. RSVLTS gear will be available during the game for purchase and there will be 9 Innings of Winning where each inning the seat of a lucky fan will be drawn to receive some of the viral sensation gear.

"Two years ago we polled our fans to see what the most iconic American movie of all-time,” said RSVLTS Co-Founder, Stephen Gebhardt. “20 films were included in the poll and The Sandlot, with its themes of baseball, fireworks, s'mores, Babe Ruth and everything in between, was the runaway winner. Like so many others, this film defined my childhood and turned me into a lifelong baseball fan so when the opportunity to partner with the SWB RailRiders for Sandlot night came knocking it was a no brainer to jump on it. We can't wait to meet fellow Sandlot fans and get everyone hyped about our Sandlot button up shirts throughout the night."

Fans are encouraged to come to the ballpark dressed as Wendy Peffercorn, Squints, Smalls or any of their favorite “The Sandlot” characters to win amazing prizes as part of that night’s look-alike contest.

There will also be some more fun with hot dog eating competition and s’mores activities, with specific instructions on how to make the childhood favorite: First, you take the graham. You stick the chocolate on the graham. Then, you roast the mallow. When the mallow's flaming, you stick it on the chocolate. Then, you cover it with the other end.

EXECUTIVE WOMEN'S GOLF NEWS

LPGA Women Who Play

Will become a branch of the LPGA Foundation, remains committed to creating local and national golf communities for women

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif., March 27, 2018 – The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) announced today that the Executive Women's Golf Association (EWGA) will officially join the LPGA family and be rebranded as 'LPGA Women Who Play,' the final structural step in a strategic alliance between the two organizations to further promote the growth of women's golf.

The EWGA will become a branch of the LPGA Foundation with an overarching goal to create additional playing opportunities for women golfers, which is viewed by both organizations as the perfect complement to the LPGA Women’s Network, a digital platform for female players to share their passion for the game.

The newly created LPGA Women Who Play will remain focused on creating local and national golf communities and experiences for its thousands of members and hundreds of chapters across the globe.

"Our intention is take what the EWGA has built in terms of a base over their 25-plus years and to help elevate that by putting the full resources of the LPGA behind it. Our goal is to grow the player and chapter base to create more opportunities for women golfers in a comfortable environment."

This strategic alliance brings together the LPGA, one of the longest-running women's professional sports associations in the world, and the EWGA, the largest national women’s amateur golf organization, which currently has nearly 12,000 members spanning approximately 100 communities in the United States, Canada, Bermuda and Italy.

“Not only will this move create enhanced experiences and events for existing members, but we believe it provides our organization with a platform to attract a new audience of women to local chapters and the game of golf."

While the restructuring of this alliance was made official with today’s announcement during the buildup to the year's first major championship, the ANA Inspiration, the EWGA and LPGA Foundation will be working hand-in-hand over the coming weeks and months with volunteer leaders and members across the country to ensure a smooth and official transition, chapter by chapter.

Together, the LPGA, LPGA Women’s Network and LPGA Women Who Play will create a seamless transition for women looking to go from aspiring player to recreational golfer and serve as an advocate for positive change within the game.

BELMONTE & O"NEILL WINS DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP

Fourth Time’s the Charm for Jason Belmonte & Bill O’Neill
in Roth-Holman PBA Doubles Championship presented by BowlerX.com
Champions defeat San Francisco’s Tang brothers to end streak of three straight fourth-place finishes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After fourth-place finishes as partners in three previous Mark Roth-Marshall Holman PBA Doubles Championships, Australia’s Jason Belmonte and his “best mate,” Bill O’Neill of Langhorne, Pa., finally won in their fourth try.

With the tournament’s namesake PBA Hall of Fame partners in the crowd for the finals of the event that was presented by BowlerX.com, Belmonte and O’Neill defeated brothers Darren and Michael Tang of San Francisco, 205-185, at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl. The finals of the fourth event of the 2018 Go Bowling! PBA Tour season aired Sunday on ESPN.

After a dominating performance in the preliminary qualifying rounds where they averaged a combined 238.31 for 76 games, earning the top berth in the finals by 327 pins, Belmonte and O’Neill finished in convincing style. The win was the 17th of Belmonte’s career and the ninth for O’Neill.

The championship came down to age-and-experience out-matching the youthful exuberance of third-year PBA member Darren Tang, 24, and his 22-year-old brother Michael, a PBA Tour rookie. O’Neill and Belmonte threw only four strikes in the title match – including one double – and converted six single-pin spares. It was enough to stave off the Tangs, who had won three consecutive matches to reach the title contest, but were unable to put together back-to-back strikes in the final match. And one missed 10 pin spare by Darren Tang in the eighth frame was a setback that proved costly.

“The lanes transitioned in a way I didn’t see coming, but during the semifinal match you could see they weren’t right,” O’Neill said. “Marshall (Kent) isn’t going to bowl a game like he did very often. We decided we’d be content to hit the pocket and if (the pins) fell, they fell. We were hoping we could get it done with a 2-oh game, and fortunately that’s what we did.”

“It wasn’t playing defense; it was more that we were playing safe,” Belmonte said of the team’s conservative approach. “The adjustment either one of us could have made to be more aggressive was a risk, so if (the Tangs) couldn’t show us they were going to put together a string of strikes, there was no reason to take that risk.

“We bowled amazing all week,” Belmonte continued. “Winning was kind of getting the monkey off our back. We’ve been there three other times when we didn’t perform amazingly and today we didn’t have to perform amazingly, but we did exactly what we needed to do.”

In the alternate-frame format, where each teammate bowled five frames on one lane, the Tang brothers came out of the gate on fire, putting together a string of six strikes early on their way to a 223-203 win over Texans Shawn Maldonado and DJ Archer in game one. Splits and open frames in the final two frames by the Tangs were the only flaws that kept the score close in the end.

In game two, Brandon Novak of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Kris Prather of Plainfield, Ill., looked like they were going to eliminate the brother team when they put together a string of five early strikes. But the Tangs started with three strikes, converted two single-pin spares and combined for three strikes to take the see-saw battle into the 10th frame where Michael Tang doubled and Prather, after a strike on his first ball, left a 10 pin on his second. The Tangs escaped with a 243-235 decision.

The semifinal contest against two of the PBA’s top high-rev power players, Marshall Kent of Yakima, Wash., and EJ Tackett of Huntington, Ind., was a struggle for both teams as they quickly degraded an oil pattern that had already undergone the wear-and-tear of two earlier matches. Kent was especially vulnerable, throwing three consecutive splits he was unable to convert. Michael Tang also failed to convert a split, but otherwise the brothers left single pins they were able to spare in posting a 172-151 win to advance to the title match.

PBA players now head to Syracuse, N.Y., where the 2018 Go Bowling! PBA Tour continues with the United States Bowling Congress Masters. As defending champion, Belmonte is automatically seeded into the 64-player three-game total pinfall double-elimination match play finals field and will try for an unprecedented fifth Masters title. If successful, he’ll also tie for the PBA record for major championships won with 10, joining the late Earl Anthony and PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber in that elite group.

All qualifying and match play rounds of the USBC Masters in the Oncenter Convention Center in Syracuse, Tuesday, April 10 through Saturday, April 14, will be live streamed on PBA’s online bowling channel, Xtra Frame. To sign up, visit xtraframe.tv. The stepladder finals will air live on ESPN on Sunday, April 15, at 1 p.m. ET.

KIEFER SUTHERLAND AT BETHEL WOODS

ACTOR & MUSICIAN KIEFER SUTHERLAND
BRINGS “THE RECKLESS TOUR” TO THE EVENT GALLERY AT BETHEL WOODS
ON MAY 26TH
Tickets On Sale March 30th at 10 AM

March 23, 2018 (BETHEL, NY) – Emmy Award-winning actor Kiefer Sutherland is putting down the movie scripts and picking up his guitar to embark on a 43-city North American tour, beginning at The Grand Ole Opry and stopping at intimate, indoor Event Gallery at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts on Saturday, May 26th at 8:00 p.m. Tickets for reserved seating go on-sale to the general public Friday, March 30th at 10:00 a.m. at www.BethelWoodsCenter.org

Plus, celebrate Memorial Day Weekend at Bethel Woods with a bountiful farm-to-table dinner presented by Bethel Woods own Executive Chef Armand Vanderstigchel with a pre-show, multi-course dinner that will take place in the Market Sheds prior to the performance.

"I couldn't have imagined the depth with which I have fallen in love with touring,” Sutherland said in a statement. “To have the opportunity to convey intimate, personal stories to an audience, for me, has proven to be priceless."

Kiefer Sutherland has been a professional actor for over thirty years, starring in movies like Stand By Me, The Lost Boys, Young Guns, Flatliners, A Few Good Men, A Time to Kill, Dark City, Melancholiaand most recently, a western called Forsaken, as well as the TV series 24 and Designated Survivor.
But unknown to many during the course of his career, he has taken on other vocations with the same kind of dedication and commitment. The first one, beginning around 1992, was that of a cattle rancher and competitive cowboy (roper) in the USTRC team roping circuit. He ran a successful ranch with partner John English for almost a decade. During that timeframe, Sutherland won numerous roping events around the country including Phoenix, Indio and the Los Angeles Open.

In 2002, Sutherland, with his music partner and best friend Jude Cole, began a small record label called Ironworks. The goal of this label was to record local musicians and distribute their music at a time when the music industry was going through a monumental shift. Some of their artists included Rocco DeLuca and the Burden, HoneyHoney, and Billy Boy On Poison. In 2009, Sutherland left the label to recharge and figure out what he was going to do next.

In early 2015, Sutherland played Cole two songs he had written and wanted to record as demos for other artists to record. Cole responded positively to the songs and the album grew organically from those recordings. Two songs became four and four grew into six, until Cole suggested that they make a record. Their collaboration resulted in Kiefer Sutherland’s debut album, Down In A Hole, released in August 2016.

Sutherland says of the 11 tracks that make up the album, “It’s the closest thing I’ve ever had to a journal or diary. All of these songs are pulled from my own personal experiences. There is something very satisfying about being able to look back on my own life, good times and bad, and express those sentiments in music. As much as I have enjoyed the writing and recording process, I am experiencing great joy now being able to play these songs to a live audience, which was something I hadn’t counted on.”

Bethel Woods Center for the Arts inspires, educates, and empowers individuals through the arts and humanities by presenting a diverse selection of culturally-rich performances, popular artists, and community and educational programming.  Located 90 miles from New York City at the site of the 1969 Woodstock festival in Bethel, NY, the lush 800-acre campus includes a Pavilion Stage amphitheater with seating for 15,000, an intimate 440-seat indoor Event Gallery, the award-winning Museum at Bethel Woods, and a Conservatory for arts education programming.

Through the in-depth study and exhibition of the social, political, and cultural events of the 1960s, as well as the preservation of the historic site of the Woodstock Music and Art Fair, Bethel Woods educates individuals about the issues and lessons of the decade while inspiring a new generation to contribute positively to the world around them. The not-for-profit organization relies on the generous support of individuals, corporations, and foundations to develop and sustain programs that improve the quality of life in the region and beyond.
