Early Offense Powers SeaWolves Past Rumble Ponies
BINGHAMTON, NY – The Erie SeaWolves (5-1, 36-36) scored four runs in the third inning and three in the fourth in a 10-5 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (3-4, 38-33) Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium.
The SeaWolves batted around the order in the top of the third. Frank Schwindel delivered a two-run grounds rule double to left. He finished the game with three hits and three RBI. In the fourth, he had an RBI ground out, and Cody Eaves knocked in a run with a single. Eaves tallied two RBI and a pair of hits.
The Rumble Ponies got on the scoreboard first with a Patrick Mazeika RBI single in the first. The Ponies got their second run of the night on an Ali Sanchez RBI double in the fifth. Sanchez finished 3-4 to extend his hitting streak to 15 games.
Tommy Wilson (1-4) started for the Rumble Ponies and suffered the loss as he allowed eight runs on 11 hits over 3.2 innings. Erie’s Tim Adelman (1-0) went seven innings in which he gave up two runs on seven hits and struck out seven for the win.
The Ponies and SeaWolves wrap up their series with a doubleheader Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. RHP Harol Gonzalez takes the mound against RHP Anthony Castro in game one, which begins at 5:35 PM. POSTGAME NOTES: Sanchez extended his season-long hit streak to 15 games and moves into a tie with Mazeika and New Hampshire’s Forrest Wall for the longest hitting streaks this season in the Eastern League … The Rumble Ponies dropped their first game of the year to Erie and now sit at 6-1 against the Detroit Tigers affiliate… The Ponies committed four errors, the most in any game this season.
