Ponies Drop Series Finale against SeaWolves
Binghamton, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (21-23, 56-52) fell to the Erie SeaWolves 5-1 on Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium as Erie (31-11 62-46) took three of four in the series. The Ponies finish their eight-game homestand at 4-4.
Erie scored three in the fourth against Mickey Jannis after the knuckleballer retired the first two batters he faced. With runners on first and third two out, Josh Lester hit a two-run double and the next batter Sergio Alcantara drove home Lester with an RBI single.
The Ponies offense would be held in check by Erie right-hander Anthony Castro (5-2) who allowed one hit over seven with four walks and seven strikeouts in the win.
Binghamton would break a 16 and two thirds innings scoreless drought with an RBI single from Jason Krizan in the bottom of the eighth. Erie though would respond with two in the ninth off of Ponies reliever Joshua Torres to make it 5-1.
The Ponies travel to Akron for a quick three-game road trip opening up their series against the RubberDucks on Friday night. First pitch is at 7:05PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and on the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show gets underway at 6:50PM.
POSTGAME NOTES: The Ponies finish the season-series against Akron at 7-9 after starting the year 6-0 against them…Blake Taylor threw two and a third innings of scoreless relief…the Ponies were outhit 13 to 3…Seawolves third basemen Issac Paredes finished the game 3-5 with an RBI.
