SYRACUSE EASY WIN OVER BUFFALO 11-4

Buffalo, NY (August 4, 2019) - The Syracuse Mets crushed the Buffalo Bisons, 11-4, on Sunday afternoon at Sahlen Field. Danny Espinosa and Rubén Tejada both had three hits in the game for the Mets.

Syracuse (57-56) trailed, 3-1, entering the top of the sixth inning. Arismendy Alcantara led off with a walk and scored on a Espinosa double to cut the Buffalo lead to one, 3-2. Espinosa then moved to third base on a Luis Guillorme sacrifice bunt before Tejada singled Espinosa home, knotting the game up, 3-3. René Rivera followed with a two-run home run that put Syracuse up, 5-3.

The Mets broke the game open in the top of the eighth. Rymer Liriano hit a two-run home run for a 7-3 advantage, Rivera had an RBI double for an 8-3 edge, Ali Sanchez knocked in a run on a fielder’s choice with an error to make it a 9-3 ballgame, Braxton Lee put the ball in play and plated a run on another Buffalo error for a 10-3 lead, and Espinosa capped things off with a run-producing single for an eight-run advantage, 11-3.

Buffalo (58-55) scored its final run in the bottom of the eighth with Patrick Kivlehan’s second home run of the game to trim the deficit to seven, 11-4, but that’s as close as the Bisons got.

Syracuse scored first in the second. With two outs, Travis Taijeron homered to right-center field to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.

The Bisons responded in the bottom of the second inning with back-to-back home runs from Rowdy Tellez and Kivlehan to take a 2-1 advantage.

Buffalo added to its lead in the third. Billy McKinney led off with a triple. Two batters later, Richard Ureña doubled, scoring McKinney for a 3-1 Bisons lead before the Mets started their comeback.

Syracuse has an off day on Monday before beginning a six-day road trip on Tuesday with the first game of a three-game series against the Durham Bulls. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
