Rumble Ponies Swept by Sea Dogs in Doubleheader
BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies dropped both games of their doubleheader against the Portland Sea Dogs Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Portland won game one 5-3 and game two 1-0.
Game One – Sea Dogs 5, Rumble Ponies 3
Portland (32-34, 59-74) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Jarren Duran led the game off with a single and came around to score on a Marcus Wilson double. Joey Curletta belted a two-run home run to left, his ninth of the year.
The Sea Dogs added two more in the top of the fifth off Tony Dibrell. Curletta struck again; this time with a sacrifice fly. Brett Netzer followed with an RBI single.
The score remained 5-0 until the bottom of the seventh when the Rumble Ponies (28-42, 63-71) rallied. A walk, a single and an error loaded the bases with nobody out. Cody Bohanek drove in his first run with the Ponies on an RBI fielder’s choice. Andres Gimenez then plated two with a two-run single. Austin Bossart grounded into a double play to end the game.
Daniel McGrath (7-1) earned the win as he was tagged with three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts over 6.1 innings. Dibrell (0-8) suffered the loss as he gave up five runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings.
Game Two – Sea Dogs 1, Rumble Ponies 0
In the second game, Portland scored the only run of the game in the second inning. Curletta led the inning off with a double in the left-center field gap. Netzer drove him in with his second RBI single of the night.
Matthew Gorst, Eduard Bazardo and Durbin Feltman combined to one-hit the Ponies. Quinn Brodey recorded Binghamton’s only hit of the contest with a two-out single in the bottom of the sixth off Feltman.
Bazardo (4-1) earned the win as he tossed two innings of relief. Yeizo Campos suffered the loss and allowed one run on three hits over 2.2 innings. Feltman recorded his fourth save of the year with a two-inning outing.
The Rumble Ponies and Sea Dogs continue their series Wednesday at NYSEG Stadium at 6:35 PM on NewsRadio 1290 AM WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show starts at 6:20 PM.
POSTGAME NOTES: Over the two games, Curletta finished a combined 2-3 with three RBI and three walks…Between the two contests, the Ponies bullpen tossed 6.2 scoreless innings of one-hit ball… It was the second time all season the Rumble Ponies were swept in a doubleheader.
