Rumble Ponies Swept By Yard Goats, Drop Sixth Straight
BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies fell to the Hartford Yard Goats 8-1 Sunday at NYSEG Stadium as the visitors complete the three-game sweep. The Rumble Ponies have lost a season-high six straight games.
Mylz Jones recorded a career-high six RBI and finished the afternoon 3-4, a triple away from the cycle. He plated the first Hartford (28-28, 65-58) run with an RBI single in the second inning. Later in the frame, Scott Burcham made it 2-0 with an RBI double.
The next inning, Jones struck again with a two-out, two-run double off Kevin Smith to make it 4-0. Jones then hit a three-run home run in the fifth to make it a 7-0 game.
Binghamton (25-35, 60-64) scored its lone run in the bottom of the seventh. Luis Carpio led the inning off with pinch-hit double. He came around to score on a Mike Paez RBI groundout. It marks the second straight game Paez drove in the Ponies’ only run.
RHP Brandon Gold (10-5) earned the win as he went eight innings and gave up just one run on six hits, while striking out six. Smith (3-2) suffered the loss as he was charged with six runs on eight hits over four-plus innings.
The Rumble Ponies begin a seven-game road trip in Bowie against the Baysox Monday at 7:05 PM on NewsRadio 1290 AM WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show starts at 6:50 PM.
POSTGAME NOTES: The Ponies went 1-6 over their seven-game homestand… Andres Gimenez registered two doubles and finished 2-4.
