Syracuse (56-56) trailed, 9-5, entering the top of the ninth inning. With one out, Rubén Tejada walked, Ali Sanchez singled, and René Rivera singled to load the bases. With Travis Taijeron batting, a wild pitch brought home Tejada from third to trim the Buffalo lead to three, 9-6. Taijeron worked a walk to reload the bases, and with Grégor Blanco batting, another wild pitch scored Sanchez to make it a 9-7 ballgame. Blanco and Rymer Liriano both struck out though, ending the game.
The Mets scored first in the game in the top of the first. Arismendy Alcantara led off the game with a triple. Danny Espinosa followed with a double, scoring Alcantara for a 1-0 Syracuse lead. Later in the inning, with two outs and runners at first and third, Rivera singled home Espinosa for a 2-0 advantage.
Buffalo (58-54) quickly responded in the bottom of the first. Three straight singles loaded the bases. Rowdy Tellez and Patrick Kivlehan both followed with RBI singles that tied the game, 2-2. Two batters later, Andy Burns had a bases-loaded single that scored a run to give the Bisons a 3-2 advantage.
Syracuse regained the lead in the third. With one out and Luis Guillorme at first, Dilson Herrera crushed a home run to left field to give the Mets a 4-3 edge.
Once again, the Bisons answered though. With one out and runners at first and second base, Michael De La Cruz doubled to left-center field, scoring both runners to give the Herd a 5-4 lead.
Buffalo broke the game open in the fourth. With runners at first and third and one out, Kivlehan hit a ball over the left-field fence for a three-run homer that made it an 8-4 Bisons advantage.
The Mets loaded the bases in the top of the eighth inning and got an infield single from Alcantara to score another Syracuse run, trimming the deficit to three, 8-5.
The Bisons responded in the bottom of the eighth with another Tellez RBI single to push the lead back to four, 9-5, for Buffalo.
Syracuse and Buffalo close out their three-game series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
