Syracuse (67-61) got on the board in the top of the first inning. With one out, Arismendy Alcantara walked. Dilson Herrera then singled, putting runners at first and third base. René Rivera then worked a full count. On the 3-2 pitch, Herrera attempted to steal second base. The pitch was off the plate for ball four, but Lehigh Valley catcher Deivy Grullon threw the ball to second base, and Alcantara stole home on the throw for a 1-0 Mets lead.
Lehigh Valley (60-67) tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Phil Gosselin reached base on an error. Ali Castillo then singled to put runners at first and second. Maikel Franco followed with a double that scored Gosselin, knotting the game up, 1-1.
The Mets regained the lead in the seventh. Sam Haggarty led off with a double and moved to third on a Jason Krizan groundout.. Travis Taijeron followed with a pinch-hit single that brought home Haggarty to give the Mets a 2-1 advantage.
Syracuse’s pitching was again key in the game. Starting pitcher Drew Gagnon didn’t allow an earned run in five and 2/3 innings on the mound. Gagnon's earned run average is now 2.00 in his 13 starts with Syracuse this season. Relievers Daniel Zamora, Matt Blackham, and Tyler Bashlor all combined to throw three and 1/3 perfect innings to secure the victory.
