BUFFALO 9-SYRACUSE 3

Buffalo, NY (June 29, 2019) - The Syracuse Mets lost to the Buffalo Bisons, 9-3, on Saturday night at Sahlen Field. The Mets left seven runners on base and went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

Buffalo (42-38) started the scoring with a four spot in the bottom of the second inning. Patrick Kivlehan walked, and two batters later, Richard Ureña doubled to score the game’s first run. From there, Reese McGuire and Andy Burns hit back-to-back home runs to score three more runs and give the Herd a 4-0 lead.

Syracuse (39-42) scored it’s first run in the top of the fourth. Dilson Herrera doubled with one out, and René Rivera singled him home with two outs to make the score 4-1.

The Bisons added three more runs in the sixth. Burns got a hold of his second home run of the day and eighth of the season to push the lead to 5-1. Alen Hanson and Bo Bichette both followed with walks, placing runners at first and second base for Socrates Brito who tripled, scoring both runners for a six-run advantage, 7-1.

Buffalo extended its lead in the seventh. Kivlehan led off with a triple and scored on a Jordan Patterson single to make it an 8-1 ballgame. Patterson advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a fly out to center field, and scored on a McGuire sacrifice fly to put the Bisons up 9-1.

The Mets scored a run in the eighth and one in the ninth thanks to home runs. Grégor Blanco led off the eighth inning with a homer over the right-field wall to trim the deficit to 9-2. Then, Rivera crushed a ball over the center-field wall to lead off the ninth inning to bring the final margin to six, 9-3.

Syracuse and Buffalo conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon. RHP Walker Lockett will be on the mound for the Mets opposite RHP Conor Fisk for the Bisons. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.

Ponies Split DH with Curve in Pair of One-Run Games
Altoona, PA – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (40-37, 5-8) split a doubleheader with the Altoona Curve (41-37, 6-5) on Saturday at Peoples Natural Gas Field. The Rumble Ponies won Game One 2-1 and dropped Game Two 4-3 in nine innings.
Game One – Rumble Ponies 2, Curve 1 (7)
Mickey Jannis (4-1) allowed just three hits and one run over six innings to earn his 25th career win with Binghamton, tying him with Tyler Pill for the most in franchise history. In the seventh, Jannis allowed the first two hitters to get on before the tarp came on the field in what would be a 45-minute rain delay. When play resumed, Stephen Villines came in and earned his fifth save of the year.
Barrett Barnes had an RBI double in the first and Gavin Cecchini added an RBI single in the fifth proving to be just enough for the Ponies to hold on. It was Barnes third straight game with an RBI. It is Jannis second straight win allowing only one run in both of those outings.
Game Two – Curve 4, Rumble Ponies 3 (9)
Chris Sharpe had the walk-off RBI single in the ninth giving the Curve the extra-innings victory. For a fourth straight game, the Ponies got on the board first as Barrett Barnes again had an RBI double in the first. He has driven in at least one run in all four games of the series.
Joe Zanghi made his second straight start out of the bullpen and allowed two runs over three and two thirds innings pitched. Andres Gimenez RBI single in the fifth tied the game at two and Quinn Brodey’s RBI single in the eighth put the Ponies up 3-2. Altoona tied it in the bottom of the eighth on a sac bunt by Arden Pabst in which pitcher Joseph Shaw (0-3) committed a throwing error.
POSTGAME NOTES: The Ponies fall to 6-2 in extra-inning games…This is the second doubleheader the two clubs have played against each other, as Binghamton swept the first one at NYSEG Stadium on May 14…Ali Sanchez only played in Game 2 and finished 0-4 as his 18-game hitting streak came to a close. It was the longest hitting streak this season in the Eastern League.
The rubber game of the five-game series concludes Sunday night from Altoona with first pitch at 6:00PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show begins at 5:45.
SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE RAILRIDERS (46-34) @ LEHIGH VALLEY IRONPIGS (37-41)
RHP Brody Koerner (3-1, 4.60) vs. RHP Ramon Rosso (0-1, 4.60)
|  Game No. 81  |  Coca-Cola Park  |  Allentown, PA  |  June 30, 2019  |  First Pitch 1:35 p.m.  |

ALLENTOWN, PA (June 29, 2019)
-- Shane Robinson did not homer in 50 games and 188 at-bats for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in 2018. Saturday night, he delivered a pair of homers and drove home five runs against his former team as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs notched a 12-3 victory over SWB before a sellout crowd of 10,100 at Coca-Cola Park.
The barrage began for Lehigh Valley just two batters into the game when Robinson delivered a two-run homer clubbed to left field. By the time he stepped to the plate in the 6th inning and drilled his second two-run homer of the night, the IronPigs had extended their lead to 7-1, and his second blast made it 9-1.

RailRiders pitching recorded their final six outs via strikeouts, including J.P. Feyereisen who notched a scoreless inning in his first time out since being named an International League All-Star Wednesday.

The RailRiders scored a run in the top of the 5th inning to plate their first run of the game, with Mike Ford’s RBI double doing the honors. He later belted a solo homer to begin the 8th inning and finished the game 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, a home run and two RBI. Tyler Wade (2-for-5) and Clint Frazier (2-for-5) also logged multi-hit games for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as they fell Saturday night depite a 12-hit attack.

SLIDING INTO JULY:
The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders wake up Sunday morning with a 4.0-game lead in the IL North Division after dropping a third straight game Saturday night to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. The last time they were only 4.0 games up in the division was following a loss 27 days ago June 7th against the Syracuse Mets. This marks the third losing streak of at least three games this season for SWB, and they’ll look to avoid matching their four-game streak from April 17-April 23 as the longest of the season.
THIS FELT DIFFERENT:
The RailRiders dropped a second straight game Friday night to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs via a one-run loss, dropping them to 11-13 in one-run games this season. However, the RailRiders held a 3-2 lead entering the 7th inning before giving up the tying run in the bottom of the 7th and surrendering the winning run in the 8th. Before Friday, the 2019 RailRiders had been 38-0 when leading after six innings.
A DIFFERENT SITUATION:
The RailRiders entered Friday’s series-opener against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs having to take on two of the top arms in the International League in RHP Enyel De Los Santos (3-3, 3.28) and LHP Cole Irvin (2-0, 2.50). SWB had faced De Los Santos once already this season, scoring four times in the bottom of the first inning, with Tyler Wade’s two-run homer capping the early barrage. Friday night, De Los Santos had shut down the RailRiders’ bats until the 5th inning. Over the first 4.2 innings he had allowed just three hits before three runs scored with two outs to give the RailRiders a 3-1 lead. Meanwhile, Irvin appeared in games April 10th and 17th and the RailRiders did not have the same level of success in notching just 1 ER off the southpaw in 12.2 IP (0.71 ERA).This continues a dominating trend for the two starters from a season ago, when Irvin and De Los Santos appeared in a combined 10G/10GS against SWB and was downright stingy: 3-2, 56.2 IP, 57 H (.261 BAA), 15R/15ER (2.38 ERA), 49 K, 10 BB
HANDLED AT HOME
: The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders welcomed the Buffalo Bisons to town Wednesday night for a three-game, two-day set between the top two teams in the International League North Division. Entering play Wednesday, the RailRiders held a 5.0-game lead on Buffalo, but the lead could have gotten reduced to 2.0 games had Buffalo continued its play as the hottest team in the IL. Instead, the RailRiders took the first two games of the series before dropping the nightcap of Thursday’s doubleheader, 1-0 (7). The RailRiders and Bisons have now met 17 times this season entering Thursday’s doubleheader, with the RailRiders holding an 11-5 advantage (Home: 5-6 // Road: 6-0). The two teams will not meet again until the final four games of the regular season August 30 - September 2 at PNC Field.
ON PACE:
The RailRiders have a number of players at the midway point of the season who are locked-in on setting a new career-high in home runs in a seasonMike Ford: 19 HR (Career-High: 20 HR, 2017)Ryan McBroom: 16 HR (Career-High: 22 HR, 2016)Trey Amburgey: 13 HR (Career-High: 16 HR, 2018)Breyvic Valera: 10 HR (Career-High)Gosuke Katoh: 7 HR (Career-High)
MORE POWER:
Logan Morrison homered just over a week ago to became the sixth member of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to record double-digit homers this season. He three more over the next three games and is now up to 14 longballs on the season. He has joined Mike Ford (16), Ryan McBroom (16), Kyle Higshioka (11), Trey Amburgey (10) and Brad Miller (10) among the team leaders. Last year’s team had only six players with 10+ homers. Up next for the 2019 RailRiders: Breyvic Valera (9).

PBA CEO/COMMISSIONER TOM CLARK RECEIVES KEGEL’S JOHN DAVIS AWARD
PBA CEO and Commissioner Tom Clark was the 19th recipient of the John Davis Award, presented by Kegel – the company the late John Davis co-founded – Wednesday at International Bowl Expo in Las Vegas. The award is presented annually to an individual who is actively involved in trying to advance the sport of bowling. A perpetual plaque, bearing each recipient’s name, is permanently displayed in The Kegel Training Center in Lake Wales, Fla.

“(Clark) brought the PBA from the doldrums to probably the greatest of all-time,” said PBA Hall of Famer Len Nicholson, the former PBA supervisor of lane maintenance and host of the long-running “The Phantom” internet podcast, as he presented the award.

“I loved John Davis. Any award with his name on it and celebrates what (Kegel CEO) Chris Chartrand and Kegel have done to keep his name alive, is amazing,” Clark said. “To have you guys recognize me is sweet, very nice.

“I used to have conversations with John that would last for hours, and they never got boring,” Clark added. “All John cared about was the sport of bowling, and that’s what I care about, too.”

FLORIDA’S BILL ROGERS WINS PBA BOWLING CHALLENGE “PBA PLAYOFFS” SPECIAL EVENT
Bill Rogers of Rotonda West, Fla., won the “PBA Playoffs Challenge” special event conducted as part of Concrete Software’s PBA Bowling Challenge in early June. The special competition required a contestant to bowl a game higher than the 216 game Kris Prather bowled in his second game in winning the PBA Playoffs on the PBA Bowling Challenge game for mobile devices.

Rogers was among the 22,866 unique players who re-entered the contest an average of 4.5 times, generating a total of 103,513 submissions – a record for the PBA mobile device game. Rogers had 14 submissions and his winning score was selected at random among those who topped Prather’s 216. Numerous players submitted more than 100 game scores.

For his win, Rogers receives a PBA bowling pin autographed by Prather plus 6,000 PBA Bowling Challenge gold pins from Concrete Software.

Sammy Ventura of Norwich, N.Y., a two-time East Region PBA50 Player of the Year, compiled a 5-3 match play record and a 15-game total of 3,598 pins to win the PBA50 Ned Micelli Memorial at Herrill Lanes in New Hyde Park, N.Y., Saturday by a mere six pins over reigning PBA50 East Region Player of the Year Rick Graham of Lancaster, Pa.

Ventura qualified second, 11 pins behind Graham, but quickly assumed the lead, which he held throughout the first seven games of the round robin match play finals. Ventura held a 69-pin lead over Graham going into the final match, but Graham started with four strikes and found himself in position to win before he suffered an open frame in the seventh frame. After Graham failed to strike in the ninth, Ventura had the title clinched despite an open in the final frame.

Ventura won $1,500 along with his ninth overall PBA Regional title while Graham earned $800.

The new PBA East Region event was organized by PBA member Glenn Smith to honor the late Ned Micelli, a long-time fellow competitor. Micelli, who died in July 2017, competed well into his 80s throughout the Long Island area.

• Greg Thomas of Irmo, S.C., defeated red-hot Stoney Baker of Canton, Ga., 233-166, to win the PBA50 Aberdeen South Open at SandHills Bowling Center in Aberdeen, N.C., Sunday.

Thomas won $2,600 along with his fifth overall PBA Regional title. He started the championship game with five strikes and that was all he needed in running away with the win after Baker ran into trouble early and couldn’t recover.

In the semifinal round, Thomas defeated Brian Kretzer of Dayton, Ohio, 179-165, while Baker disposed of PBA Hall of Famer Walter Ray Williams Jr. of Oxford, Fla., 249-227, in the other semifinal round match.

• Myles Duty of Modesto, Calif. posted a 6-4 match play record and knocked down 4,543 pins Sunday to win his second PBA Regional title in the PBA Epi Center Northwest/West Open in Klamath Falls, Ore.

Duty, who earned $2,000, defeated non-PBA member Anthony Thompson of Redding, Calif., by 21 pins for the title. Thompson had an 8-2 match play record and 4,522 total pins for his 18 games including match play bonus pins.

In the companion PBA50 Open, John Gould of Yuba City, Calif., went 6-2 and knocked down 3,944 total pins to top Bob Rosenau of Redding, Calif., for his first PBA50 Regional title and third title overall. Rosenau had a 3-5 match play record and a total of 3,745 pins.

• Non-PBA member Cory Hines of Jackson, Mich. defeated Chandler Stevens of Archbold, Ohio, 276-193, to win the PBA Pro Bowl West Central/Midwest Challenge presented by Ebonite at Pro Bowl West in Fort Wayne, Ind., on Saturday.

Challenge events are open to PBA members without a PBA title or non-members who have never won a PBA event. Hines earned $1,500 for the win, but since he is not a PBA member, he does not receive credit for a PBA regional title.

Hines downed Charlie Brown Jr. of Granville, Mich., 248-203 while Stevens edged Michael Bankert of Indianapolis, 267-255, in semifinal round matches to set up the championship match.

•  Closing out the June PBA Regional calendar this weekend will be the PBA-PBA50 John Kontos Memorial Midwest/Central Doubles Open at Town & Country Lanes in Joliet, Ill., and the Century Lanes Hampton South Open in Hampton, Va.

• Heading into the 4th of July weekend, Bowl 10 Fairborn will host the PBA50 Fairborn Central Classic presented by Roto Grip Monday-Wednesday, July 1-3, in Fairborn, Ohio. Closing the extended holiday weekend July 5-7 will be the PBA50 Greater Freeport Midwest/Central Open at 4 Seasons Bowl in Freeport, Ill.; the Grand Casino Hotel & Resort Southwest Doubles presented by DV8 at FireLake Bowling Center in Shawnee, Okla., and the PBA/PBA50 Vanessa Brown Homes West Open doubleheader presented by Track at Yosemite Lanes in Modesto, Calif.

• Long-time PBA member Lee Vanderhoef of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., became the third bowler in the 116-year history of the USBC Open Championships to bowl three perfect games in the tournament when he rolled his most recent 300 during his team event on June 20 at the South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas. Vanderhoef, 40, rolled his first 300 in the 2009 USBC Open Championships, also in Las Vegas, and he joined the list of 31 other bowlers with multiple 300s when he recorded No. 2 during the 2013 tournament in Reno.

Dilson Herrera is hitting .267 this season with a team-leading 17 home runs and 16 doubles (Danny Tripodi).

Syracuse Mets infielder Dilson Herrera has been selected to the 2019 International League All-Star Team that will compete against the Pacific Coast League's All-Stars at Southwest University Park in El Paso, TX on Wednesday, July 10th at 9:00 p.m. The selection marks Herrera’s third time being named an All-Star. The 25-year-old was named a South Atlantic League All-Star with West Virginia (A-Pirates) in 2013 and a Florida State League All-Star with St. Lucie (A-Mets) in 2014.

Herrera has a career-high 17 home runs this season, which leads the team and ranks seventh in the International League. Herrera also leads the team with 16 doubles. The Cartagena, Columbia native’s 33 extra-base hits rank tenth in the league. Entering today, Herrera has a .267 batting average with 38 RBIs this year. Since June 9th, Herrera has reached base in 16 straight games with hits in 15 of those games. During that stretch, Herrera is third in the league with a .400 batting average (22-for-55) and leads the league with eight home runs.

“I’m really excited to make the team,” Herrera said. “I’ve been working hard every day to get better, and this is an exciting opportunity.”

“We’re excited for Dilson to represent the Syracuse Mets,” said Mets manager Tony DeFrancesco. “He’s been a good power bat in our lineup and has been driving in runs for us, especially recently.”

Herrera is in his fourth season in the New York Mets organization and his first since 2016. Herrera made his MLB debut with the Mets in 2014 and also played part of the 2015 season with New York. He spent the last two and a half years in the Cincinnati Reds organization before signing a minor league contract with the Mets before this season.

SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE RAILRIDERS GAME REPORT
Lehigh Valley  4  -  Scranton/Wilkes-Barre  3
Unearned run in the bottom of the 8th inning proves costly for RailRiders

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ALLENTOWN, PA (June 28, 2019) – Friday night’s game before a sellout crowd of 10,100 fans at Coca-Cola Park was deadlocked entering the bottom of the 8th inning, but a throwing miscue by the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders allowed an unearned run to score giving the Lehigh Valley IronPigs a 4-3 series-opening win.
In what proved to be the decisive inning, the RailRiders sent Jonathan Holder to the mound for a 2nd inning in his first game with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season. After allowing a run in the 7
th inning, the 8th inning began with a single by Malquin Canelo. He was bunted into scoring position by Phil Gosselin and was there with two outs when Andrew Romine came to the plate.
The RailRiders opted to bring Danny Coulombe from the bullpen to face the switch-hitting Romine who bats 20 points lower from the right side of the plate. He smoked a hard groundball to the right side of the infield, in which first baseman Logan Morrison made an incredible diving stop to keep the ball on the infield, but then delivered a wayward throw to Coulombe covering the bag to allow Canelo to round third base and score the eventual winning run.

The RailRiders trailed 1-0 early, but threw three runs on the board in the top of the 5
th inning with some two-out action off IronPigs starter Enyel De Los Santos. Erik Kratz doubled and was at second base with one out when Mike Ford walked. Breyvic Valera singled home Kratz to tie the game 1-1. The next man up was Tyler Wade who sliced a triple to left-centerfield to score Ford and Valera and give the RailRiders their last runs of the night.
Lehigh Valley scored single runs in the 2
nd, 5th and 7th innings to set up the go-ahead situation in the 8th to come away with the win.
Adonis Rosa got the start for SWB and turned in his finest performance of the season despite picking up a no-decision. Over 6.0 innings he scattered four hits and struck out seven batters while allowing two runs on just a pair of solo home runs from Lehigh Valley’s Austin Listi.

The RailRiders and IronPigs go head-to-head for the middle game of their three-game set Saturday with a 6:35 p.m. scheduled first pitch. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre sends RHP Randall Delgado (1-2, 4.50) to the mound, going up against LHP Cole Irvin (2-0, 2.50) who has allowed just one earned run in 12.1 innings against SWB this season. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre returns to PNC Field on Thursday, July 4. For tickets and more information, call (570) 969-BALL or slide to
