Kaczmarski’s big night leads to victory in Portland
PORTLAND, ME – The Rumble Ponies offense was on fire for a second straight night, led by Kevin Kaczmarski’s 3-run homer and 5 RBI in a 10-1 win over the Sea Dogs Thursday night at Hadlock Field. Kaczmarski finished 2-4, with his first homer of the year in the 2nd to begin the Rumble Ponies scoring and a 2-run double in the 9th to cap it off.
Rumble Ponies starter Anthony Kay had a superb outing, allowing just 2 hits over 5 and a third scoreless frames, getting the win to go to 2-2, and lowering his ERA to 1.52. Portland’s Denyi Reyes falls to 0-4, allowing 5 earned runs over 6.
Braxton Lee also had a 2-run single in the 5th that made it 5-0 Rumble Ponies, and finished 2-3, with 2 RBI, 2 walks, and a run scored, and is now batting .316.
Red Sox second basemen Dustin Pedroia was making a major league rehab assignment for Portland, starting and playing 5 innings. He finished 0 for 3 against Kay, with a groundout and two flyouts to right.
This is the start of a 6-game series in Portland. Tomorrow’s doubleheader has been moved up an hour, with first pitch scheduled at 4pm on CBS Sports Radio 1360 and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies Channel on TuneIn.
POSTGAME NOTES: The Rumble Ponies scored 10 runs Thursday night, after only scoring one in three games last weekend against the Sea Dogs. Binghamton also improves to 13-8 and with Trenton’s loss in Harrisburg, moves to just a half game back of the Thunder for first place in the Eastern Division. The Sea Dogs have dropped 3 in a row, only scoring 1 run over that period.
