JOIN BOWLING’S MOST ENTHUSIASTIC FANS FOR PBA PLAYOFFS FINALE
PBA fans still have a limited time to join the most enthusiastic fans in bowling for the final rounds of the inaugural PBA Playoffs at colorful Bayside Bowl in historic Portland Maine Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2.
A limited number of lane-side standing room only tickets are available for both the “final four” semifinal matches pitting dark horse Kris Prather of Plainfield, Ill., against 22-year-old two-hander Anthony Simonsen of Little Elm, Texas, followed by the “race to 2 points” match between the winners of Monday’s Round of 8 matches involving veterans Bill O’Neill of Langhorne, Pa., vs. Colombia’s Andres Gomez and Sean Rash of Montgomery, Ill., against Kyle Sherman of O’Fallon, Mo. The semifinal round gets underway at noon EDT on Saturday.
The winners will then return to duel for the $100,000 first prize in a “race to 2 points” finale Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Both rounds will air live on FOX.

Matt Kuba of Chicago Ridge, Ill. defeated Nick Pate of Inner Grove Heights, Minn., 242-236, to win $2,500 and his first PBA Regional title in the PBA Glo Bowl Midwest Open presented by 900 Global at Glo Bowl Fun Center in Marengo, Ill., Saturday.
Kuba defeated Jakob Butturff of Tempa, Ariz., 232-223, to advance to the championship match after Kuba downed Nick Kruml of Downers Grove, Ill., 237-214, in the first stepladder match.
• Stoney Baker of Canton, Ga., defeated PBA Hall of Famer Walter Ray Williams Jr. of Oxford, Fla., 247-224, to take the first prize in the PBA50 Canton South Open presented by Roto Grip at Cherokee Lanes in Canton, Ga., Sunday, improving his all-time PBA titles total to 31.
Baker qualified in second place for the stepladder finals with an 5-3 match play record and a 16-game total of 3,800 pins, including match play bonus pins, and then won two consecutive matches to earn the $1,700 first prize. Williams, who led from the start to the title match, posted an 4-4 match play record and had 3,975 pins to qualify first, 175 pins ahead of Baker, but had to settle for the $900 second prize. After Williams took the lead with an early double, Baker rolled six consecutive strikes to take the commanding lead.
In the first stepladder match Joe Beck of Montgomery, Ala. defeated Dave Han of Birmingham, Ala., 188-181. Baker then disposed of Beck, 214-161, in the semifinal match.
• Cole Schroyer, a non-PBA member from Stanton, Texas, pulled ahead of the field late in the 13-game qualifying round and then won seven of his eight matches in the modified round-robin finals to thoroughly dominate the competition in the second annual PBA Waxahachie Southwest Challenge Sunday at Hilltop Lanes in Waxahachie, Texas.
Schroyer had built a lead of more than 100 pins early in the match play portion of the finals and added to it throughout his first six matches. He then put a stamp on clinching the victory with the tournament’s high game of 296 in the seventh game, taking an insurmountable 341-pin lead into the final position round match. For his victory, he earned the $2,000 winner’s check, but as a non-member, he won’t receive credit for a PBA title. PBA Challenge events are open only to players who have not previously won a PBA title.
• PBA Regionals over the Memorial Day weekend (May 24-25) will include the Colony Park Lanes Challenge for non-titlists, presented by Columbia 300, in York, Pa., and the annual Celeste Walker Midwest/Central Open presented by Track at Strike N Spare II in Lockport, Ill.

• The 10th annual Rhino Page Lace Up to Strike Out Crohn’s and Colitis fundraiser is set for Saturday, June 5, at South Levittown Lanes in Levittown, N.Y. Page’s involvement with the event earned him the PBA Tony Reyes Community Service Award in 2016. • Reminder: Applications for the 2019 PBA Billy Welu Scholarship Award, recognizing exemplary qualities in male or female college students who excel in academics as well as in the sport of bowling, are being accepted through June 21. The winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship. To be eligible candidates must be amateur bowlers who are currently in college (preceding the application date) and maintaining at least a 2.5/4.0 GPA or equivalent.
