Travis Taijeron homered for the second straight night on Sunday (Danny Tripodi).
Syracuse, NY (May 26, 2019) - The Syracuse Mets overcame deficits of 5-0 and 6-5, but the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders prevailed for an 11-6 victory over Syracuse on Sunday night at NBT Bank Stadium in front of an amped-up crowd of 7,669 fans. Home runs were plentiful again with the teams combining for six homers in the game.
The RailRiders added four more runs in the top of the third. Kyle Higashioka doubled, and Mike Tauchman singled him home for a 2-0 edge. Then after McBroom singled, Logan Morrison hit a three-run home run to right-center field for a 5-0 RailRiders advantage.
Syracuse (24-24) answered back in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Grégor Blanco and Rubén Tejada both singled, and Danny Espinosa walked to load the bases. René Rivera extended his on-base streak to a Mets season-high 16 games with a two-run single that trimmed the deficit to 5-2. Travis Taijeron followed with a three-run home run, his second game in a row with a homer, tying the game, 5-5.
The RailRiders grabbed the lead right back in the fourth. With one out, Tyler Wade tripled. Mike Ford followed with a single that scored Wade for a 6-5 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lead.
In the fifth, Syracuse again briefly tied the game. Blanco launched a home run to right-center field, knotting the score, 6-6.
The RailRiders took the lead back in the seventh. Ford led off the seventh with a home run for a 7-6 lead.
The home runs continued in the eighth. Trey Amburgey led off with a homer to push the lead to 8-6. Two batters later, Wade reached on an error on Arismendy Alcantara at second. Then after a walk, Breyvic Valera singled to right to extend the lead to three, 9-6.
The RailRiders added two more runs in the ninth. McBroom walked, and Billy Burns singled. Amburgey then grounded out to third, and McBroom scored to make it a 10-6 ballgame. Two batters later, Wade singled home Burns for an 11-6 lead.
Syracuse and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre close out their four-game series on Monday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium.
