Moosic, Pa. The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) tied their season-high for runs in a game by beating the Columbus Clippers 10-3 on Friday night at PNC Field. The win gives the RailRiders (31-24) the best record in the International League by a half-game over the Clippers (30-24).
Luis Severino made his first start of the year with SWB and cruised through three perfect innings on 37 pitches. However, the right-hander departed after allowing three runs on two hits and three walks in the fourth. Diego Moreno (3-1) took home the win by holding Columbus scoreless for 2.1 innings. Anthony Swarzak held Columbus to one base runner over the final three innings for his seventh save.
The RailRiders scored eight runs in the first three innings off Clippers’ starter T.J. House (4-3). A two-out single by Pete Kozma and a double from Jonathan Diaz gave the RailRiders a 2-0 lead in the second.
Aaron Judge sparked a six-run rally in the third by thundering a double to center. Nick Swisher followed with a single and Donovan Solano reached on an error that allowed Judge to score. Jake Cave doubled home Swisher for a 4-0 advantage and Kyle Higashioka plated two more with a two-baser to left. Higashioka raced home when Diaz reached on a fielding error by Giovanny Urshela at third. Gamel capped the inning with a double to left-center, plating Diaz, for an 8-0 lead.
SWB kept their 8-3 cushion into the sixth. Gamel and Judge teamed for consecutive doubles to make 9-3 and Solano’s single brought in Judge for the final margin.
The RaiRiders finished the night with seven extra-base hits and were 7-for-19 with men in scoring position.
