B-METS LOSE 6-3

Missed Opportunities Doom B-Mets in 6-3 Loss
BINGHAMTON, NY- The Binghamton Mets went 4-for-17 with runners in scoring position and stranded 13 men on base in a 6-3 loss to the Altoona Curve Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. It was Binghamton’s fifth straight loss.
The Curve started fast with three runs in the first. Reese McGuire drove in a pair with a two-out double and later scored on an Edwin Espinal double to give Altoona a 3-0 advantage.
They added one more in the second thanks to some control issues from Rainy Lara. With the bases loaded, Lara issued a walk to Jose Osuna, pushing in a run to make the score 4-0.
Binghamton got on the board in the third inning as Phillip Evans led off with a single. He came in to score on a Jayce Boyd groundout that cut the lead to 4-1.
Altoona answered in the fourth as Harold Ramirez drove in Anderson Feliz with a single. Stetson doubled to lead off the sixth and scored on a Barrett Barnes pinch-hit double, putting the Curve up 6-1.
The B-Mets got two back in the seventh as Matt Oberste scored on a Jayce Boyd sacrifice fly. Colton Plaia later doubled in Dominic Smith to make it 6-3.
Lara (4-7) allowed six runs on ten hits over five innings for the loss. Clay Holmes (6-4) held the B-Mets to one run on seven hits and four walks in five innings for the win.
L.J. Mazzilli went 3-for-5 with three singles and a stolen base, Maikis De La Cruz was 2-for-3 with a walk and Smith walked twice, was hit by a pitch and scored a run while going 1-for-2.
The finale of the three-game set with the Curve is scheduled for 6:35 PM on Thursday. RHP Josh Zeid will start for the B-Mets against LHP Cody Dickson for Altoona. POSTGAME NOTES: The loss ensured that the B-Mets will lose their third consecutive series…Beck Wheeler worked a scoreless ninth and has five straight scoreless appearances…Binghamton’s five-game losing streak is its longest since losing eight straight from 5/7-5/14.
