B-METS LOSE, REYES 0-4

B-Mets Last Gasp Falls Short in 4-2 Loss
BINGHAMTON, NY- The Binghamton Mets brought the game’s tying run to the plate in the ninth inning but came up short in a 4-2 loss to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium. Jose Reyes went 0-for-4 and played the full game at third base. Juan Lagares went 1-for-4 with a single and spent all nine innings in center field.
Trailing 4-1, Amed Rosario and Dominic Smith each singled to lead off the ninth. In a 12-pitch at bat, Jayce Boyd bounced into a double play that scored Rosario but left the bases empty. Matt Oberste then struck out to end the game.
New Hampshire got going in the first as Christian Lopes led off with a single. He later scored on a Ryan Lavarnway single that gave the Fisher Cats a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth, Rowdy Tellez dribbled a swinging bunt to the left side. Casey Delgado came off the mound to field it and threw wide at first, an error that allowed Tellez to reach. He later scored on a Jason Leblebijian double, extending the lead to 2-0.
A brief two-out rally yielded one more for New Hampshire in the sixth. Leblebijian smacked a double to left then Derrick Loveless pulled a triple to right, scoring Leblebijian to make it 3-0.
The Fisher Cats added one more in the seventh as Shane Opitz doubled and came in to score as Roemon Fields reached on a fielder’s choice.
Meanwhile, Casey Lawrence was cruising. He did not allow a hit until the fourth inning and at one point retired nine straight and 12 of 13.
Binghamton got on the board in the bottom of the seventh. Rosario led off with a single and Smith followed with a double down the right field line. Rosario scored all the way from first to cut the deficit to 4-1.
Delgado (4-4) took the loss as he allowed four runs, three earned, on eight hits over seven innings. Lawrence (3-6) earned the win with six strikeouts and three hits allowed over seven innings of one-run ball.
Rosario was 2-for-4 and scored both B-Mets runs and Smith went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
The series continues with a doubleheader on Friday. Game one begins at 5:35 and will be started by RHP Tyler Pill for the B-Mets against RHP Taylor Cole for the Fisher Cats. POSTGAME NOTES: Amed Rosario went 2-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to eight games…Colton Plaia was 0-for-3 and his hitting streak was snapped at eight games…Dominic Smith has now recorded an RBI in six of his last seven games.
