B-METS OUT MUSCLE GOATS 5-1

B-Mets Out-Muscled by Yard Goats, 5-1
BINGHAMTON, NY- The Hartford Yard Goats pounded out 13 hits and defeated the Binghamton Mets, 5-1, Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton failed to secure the sweep, but won its fourth straight series.
The B-Mets struck first in the bottom of the third. Casey Delgado helped his own cause with a leadoff walk and stood at second with two outs. Matt Oberste deposited a double in left-center, scoring Delgado from second to give the B-Mets a 1-0 advantage.
The Yard Goats fought back with a pair in the fourth. Jackson Williams and Zach Osborne each singled and Michael Benjamin drove them both home with a bloop single to right, giving Hartford a 2-1 lead.
Hartford got another in the fifth as Rosell Herrera singled then stole second and third. Ryan McMahon drove him in with a single up the middle to make it 3-1.
Delgado (4-3) allowed three runs on ten hits in six innings. He walked three and struck out six but was tagged with the loss.
Hartford padded its lead with two more in the top of the eighth. David Dahl drove in Ashley Grater with a groundout and Pat Valaika got Benjamin home on a sacrifice fly to center, making it 5-1 Yard Goats.
German Marquez (5-4) struck out seven over seven innings of one-run ball to pick up the win. Williams went 4-for-4 with a run scored and a triple to lead the Yard Goats offense.
Oberste was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double and Phillip Evans went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, extending his hitting streak to 11 games.
The B-Mets will take Monday off before hitting the road for Virginia, beginning a three-game series with the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Tuesday’s first pitch is set for 6:35 PM as RHP Mickey Jannis will oppose Richmond RHP Dan Slania. POSTGAME NOTES: Victor Cruzado entered as part of a a double switch and went 0-for-1 to snap his nine-game hitting streak…Binghamton is now 18-8 when it scores first.
