PONIES SCHOOL SUPPLIES DRIVE

Ponies Announce “Fill the Bus” School Supplies Drive
BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies are teaming up with The Healthy Lifestyles Coalition and the City of Binghamton to collect school supplies for local children in need. The Ponies will be accepting donations at NYSEG Stadium of new, unused school supplies from Friday, August 4 through their game on Wednesday, August 9. All fans who donate an item will receive a voucher for a “Buy One, Get One Free” reserved grandstand tickets for Wednesday’s game at 6:35 PM against the Erie SeaWolves.
The three organizations are striving to get enough school supplies to provide 400 or more backpacks for the children of the North Side of Binghamton. All fans are encouraged to bring new school supplies to the Starting Gate Ticket Office at NYSEG Stadium.
Acceptable school supplies include, but are not limited to: backpacks, pens, pencils, erasers, pencil pouches, colored pencils, markers, pencil sharpeners, highlighters, index cards, binders, pocket folders, tissues, and/or lunchboxes or bags. Please note: items must be in new, unopened container (i.e. pack of pencils or pens, not simply one pen).
Once all of the school supplies has been collected, The Healthy Lifestyles Coalition will separate and organize all supplies to fill the more than 400 backpacks. The Binghamton Rumble Ponies and Mayor Richard David have already pledged to donate 50 and 300 backpacks respectively towards the initiative.
“No child should start school without the supplies he or she needs to succeed,” said Mayor Richard C. David. “But for many families, the cost of purchasing even basic school supplies is a huge financial burden. The City of Binghamton is proud to partner with the Rumble Ponies and the Healthy Lifestyles Coalition on this ‘Fill the Bus’ initiative. Together, and with the help of the community, we’re working to make sure every Binghamton child comes to school prepared to succeed, because every child deserves a fair shot at success, regardless of their family’s income or circumstances.”
Once all of the backpacks have been organized they will then be given away at the 2nd Annual North Side Community Block Party from noon to 3:00pm on Saturday, August 19th at Cheri A. Lindsey Memorial Park.
“The Binghamton Rumble Ponies strive day in and day out to be the best possible community neighbor that we can possibly be. When we heard about the Northside Block Party and the initiative to secure donations, the Rumble Ponies decided to jump in and participate so that no child has to go into the school season without the proper tools to succeed,” said team president John Hughes.
