SYMETRA TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The 23rd and final stop on the 2019 “Road to the LPGA” takes the Symetra Tour to the Jones Course at LPGA International in the Sunshine State for the 12th annual Symetra Tour Championship from October 3-6. It is also the last tournament in the Million Dollar March, the stretch of five events to end the season with a cumulative purse of $1 million.
“We can’t wait to solidify the top-10 players in the Volvik Race for the Card and also celebrate them all as part of the 2019 Symetra Tour graduating class earning LPGA Tour membership for the 2020 season,” said Mike Nichols, the Chief Business Officer of the Symetra Tour. “Witnessing the dream for 10 players come true is really special. It puts into perspective their dedication to the sport since first picking up a club and the hard work they put in to make it to the highest level of women’s professional golf.”
Greeting the 108-player field in Daytona Beach is a total purse of $250,000. Individuals are set to compete in a 72-hole stroke play format with a cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes. The winner’s share for the event is $37,500.

“Having recently raised the purse definitely makes the stakes for the Symetra Tour Championship even greater,” said Ryan Ronk, the Tournament Director for the Symetra Tour Championship. “It will be a true test on the course with plenty of events leading up to play that create a lively atmosphere, highlighted by the Pro-Am event party at Daytona International Speedway on Tuesday of tournament week.”
Defending champion Ruixin Liu (Dalian, China) is not among the competitors, as she finished No. 1 in the 2018 Volvik Race for the Card to earn Symetra Tour Player of the Year. The victory on the Atlantic coast of Florida was Liu’s third in her sophomore season on the “Road to the LPGA” and one of 12 top-25s.
“I am so thankful for all that Symetra provides to support and enhance the women’s game,” Liu said. “It was very special to win the Symetra Tour Championship because it helped me earn Player of the Year honors and was the final step in preparing me for life on the LPGA Tour as a rookie this season. I always remember the winning moment and flood of emotions during the LPGA card ceremony right after.”
Action gets underway at 8:00 a.m. ET all four days with play starting off No. 1 and No. 10 tees in each round.
