Rumble Ponies Win Season Finale, Take Three of Four from Yard Goats
BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies defeated the Hartford Yard Goats 4-3 Monday afternoon in the season finale at NYSEG Stadium.
With score tied at one in bottom of the fourth, Luis Carpio led the inning off with a solo home run. Mike Paez followed with a single, and he came around to score on an Edgardo Fermin RBI double. Two batters, later Quinn Brodey drilled an RBI double into the left field corner to score Fermin making it 4-1.
The score remained that way until the seventh. Alan Trejo led the inning off with a double to center. Scott Burcham drove him home with an RBI single. One inning later Bret Boswell made it a one-run game with a towering home run to right.
In the top of the ninth, Carlos Herrera led the frame off with a double to right off Marcel Renteria to put the game-tying run in scoring position. Renteria retired the next three batters he faced to earn the save in his Double-A debut.
Mickey Jannis (7-5) earned the win as he went 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with one walk while striking out seven. Righty Brandon Gold (12-6) suffered the loss as he gave up four runs on nine hits over five innings.
Edgardo Fermin went 3-4 with two doubles and an RBI. It was Fermin’s first multi-hit game with Binghamton. Brodey, Carpio and Andres Gimenez each went 2-4 with an RBI.
The Rumble Ponies finish the season 67-73 and went 32-44 in the second half. The Yard Goats completed the year 73-66 and 36-36 in the second half.
POSTGAME NOTES: All five of the Ponies wins against the Yard Goats were by either one or two runs, and 10 of the 13 games in the season series were decided by three or fewer runs… The Rumble Ponies won their first series since July 25-28 when they took three of four from Bowie at NYSEG Stadium.
