SATURDAY FOURSOMES RECAPS
Morgan Pressel/Marina Alex (USA) def. Anna Nordqvist/Anne van Dam (EUR), 2 and 1
Through six holes, it looked like Team Europe was going to run away with Saturday’s opening match. Anna Nordqvist and Anne van Dam won Nos. 2 and 3 with birdies and a third birdie at No. 6 gave the Europeans an early 4-up lead over Morgan Pressel and Marina Alex.

The Americans won hole 7 with a par to start chipping away at the deficit. From there, Pressel and Alex carded four consecutive birdies at holes 9 to 12 to completely turn around the match and take a 1-up lead. That advantage extended to 3 up when Nordqvist and van Dam bogeyed holes 13 and 15. With Pressel and Alex dormie on 16, the Europeans extended the match with a conceded birdie after USA made bogey. But with a pair of swapped pars on 17, Pressel and Alex completed the stirring 2 and 1 comeback victory.

“Gosh, so many emotions. It was a hard-fought battle,” said Pressel, who is now 11-7-3 in all-time Solheim Cup competition. “We obviously got off to a bad start. We were 4-down early, but we really didn't feel like we were playing that poorly. Anne and Anna played great golf, got off to a great start in really tough conditions. And the putt Marina that made on seven was really the turning point in our match. From there they started to get a little shaky and all the momentum went toward us and we just kept playing our game.”

Georgia Hall/Celine Boutier (EUR) def. Lizette Salas/Ally McDonald (USA), 3 and 2
Georgia Hall and Celine Boutier continued their successful partnership on Saturday, earning a smooth 3-and-2 victory over Lizette Salas and Ally McDonald. The European duo, who also won their foursomes match on Friday, took the lead with a par at No. 3.

Salas and McDonald hung in strong, with both sides swapping pars for the next six holes. Hall and Boutier birdied holes 11 and 12 to go 3 up and while Team USA won 13 to cut the advantage to 2 up, another birdie from Europe at No. 15 gave them the insurmountable lead.

“It was unbelievably tough. The course itself, without the wind, is pretty challenging. So add the wind, it was like 40 kilometers an hour,” said Hall. “It's a very challenging course. But I think we did a very good job. And very steady all day and didn't really give them any opportunities to win anything.”

Charley Hull/Azahara Munoz (EUR) def. Danielle Kang/Megan Khang (USA), 4 and 3
Despite winds howling around them up to 40 mph, Charley Hull and Azahara Munoz made easy work of their match with Danielle Kang and Megan Khang. The European duo won the first three holes and never trailed, carding a 4-and-3 victory over the Americans.

“In that wind you just have to stay focused because this golf course is quite tricky, especially in this wind,” said Hull, who remains undefeated in foursomes all-time at the Solheim Cup, going 4-0-1. “And a lot of that is there's not going to be a lot of birdies out there. A lot of pars are going to win the holes.”

Hull and Munoz are undefeated as a pairing in 2019, going 1-0-1 on Friday to go with their Saturday victory.

Jessica Korda/Nelly Korda (USA) def. Carlota Ciganda/Bronte Law (EUR), 6 and 5
Friday saw a 6-and-4 foursomes win for Jessica Korda and Nelly Korda. Saturday made it one better. The Korda sisters never trailed en route to a 6-and-5 victory over Carlota Ciganda and Bronte Law, tying the largest foursomes victory margin in Solheim Cup history.

The Americans birdied the first two holes to quickly take a 2-up lead over their opponents, but a double bogey at No. 4 handed a hole back to Team Europe. From there, it was steady golf for the Kordas while Ciganda and Law could not find a consistent rhythm. Back-to-back bogeys from the Europeans at 7 and 8 gave Team USA a 3-up lead, while two more consecutive bogeys at 11 and 12 extended that advantage to 5 up. And with an emphatic first pump, Jessica Korda drained a long birdie putt at No. 13 to close out the blowout win.

“It was really cool, being able to hit it into the fairway on the first shot is really important,” said Jessica Korda of their clutch performance at No. 1. “And then having her hit it close on the green after they just stuffed it, and then holing the putt before they did, putting that pressure on them, it was just really good.”
