RAILRIDERS WIN 10-8

Mitchell Fans Nine in ‘Riders' Series Win
Jacoby Ellsbury Doubles, Collects Two RBI in Rehab Outing


Moosic, Pa. – The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York Yankees) held off a furious rally by the Pawtucket Red Sox, 10-8, on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field to clinch the four-game series. The RailRiders (46-29) have won eight-of-nine against the PawSox (35-38), outscoring their North Division rivals 70-35 in those eight wins.

The RailRiders got a quality start from Bryan Mitchell (1-2). The right-hander whiffed a Triple-A, career-high nine batters and held Pawtucket to a two-run single by Ryan Court as part of three hits. Pawtucket’s Jalen Beeks (2-3) surrendered three runs on six hits across six stanzas. He walked three and struck out five.

Trailing 10-3 entering the ninth, the Red Sox rallied for six runs against reliever J.R. GrahamMatt Wotherspoon entered after a three-run homer by Bryce Brentz. He struck out Allen Craig to seal the win and notched his first save with SWB this season.

Jacoby Ellsbury went 2-for-5 in his second rehab appearance with SWB. He doubled home Tyler Wade in the third and later singled home a run in the sixth. He played all nine innings as the RailRiders’ designated hitter.

Miguel Andujar opened the scoring by lining a two-run missile over the left-field wall for his first Triple-A homer. The RailRiders then broke the game open with a six-run sixth. Run-producing hits by Eddy Rodriguez, Ellsbury, Clint Frazier and a two-run knock by Dustin Fowler highlighted the frame.

The RailRiders got a spark from Wade at the top of the order. The shortstop reached safely four times on three walks and a single. He stole his Triple-A-best 24th base of the year and scored twice.  Donovan Solano singled three times and drove in a run. Rob Refsnyder singled twice and worked a walk in his first game back with SWB.

The 2016 Gildan Triple-A National Champion RailRiders begin an eight-game road trip on Monday, June 26, with the first of four against the Syracuse Chiefs (Washington Nationals) at NBT Bank Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. Right-hander Ronald Herrera makes his 2017 debut for the RailRiders against right-hander Edwin Jackson (0-0, 2.78). For tickets or more information, please call 570-969-BALL (2255) or visit swbrailriders.com.
