RAILRIDERS SPLIT TWIN BILL

RailRiders Split Twin Bill with Syracuse
SWB Mashes Four Homers

Moosic, Pa. – The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York Yankees) settled for a doubleheader split with the Syracuse Chiefs on Tuesday night at PNC Field. The RailRiders (43-27) won the nightcap 6-2, but saw the Chiefs (22-46) rally to win the front end 4-3.

A three-run homer by Tyler Austin in the first and a three-run triple by Ji-Man Choi in the fifth proved enough for the RailRiders in the final game of the evening. Matt Wotherspoon (1-0) earned after limiting the Chiefs to a run on three hits in three relief frames. He struck out one. The loss went to Taylor Hill (1-5) after the right-hander allowed six runs and eight hits across 4.2 innings.

Dustin FowlerJake Cave and Mark Payton each launched solo shots in the first game. For Fowler, it was 12th of the year, tying him with Clint Frazier for most on the team. It wasn’t enough, however, as the Chiefs rallied for two runs in the seventh.

Tyler Jones (5-2) uncorked two wild pitches and allowed two runs on two hits in the deciding frame. He tossed 1.1 innings with one walk and a strikeout. Austin Adams (3-1) grabbed the win in relief thanks to a scoreless inning and three strikeouts. Wander Suero notched his second save with a 1-2-3 seventh.

The 2016 Gildan Triple-A National Champion RailRiders earned the opportunity to clinch the series with a win on Wednesday, June 21, against the Syracuse Chiefs (Washington Nationals). First pitch at PNC Field is set for 7:05 p.m. The RailRiders will start right-hander Domingo Acevedo (1-0, 1.29) against right-hander Sean O’Sullivan (0-1, 3.38). Every Wednesday home game at PNC Field is “Wine and Dine Wednesday.” For tickets or more information, please call 570-969-BALL (2255) or visit swbrailriders.com.
