B-METS TOP SEA DOGS 4-0

Zeid Brushes Sea Dogs Aside in Opener, 4-0
PORTLAND, ME – Josh Zeid fired a career-best eight scoreless innings to guide the Binghamton Mets past the Portland Sea Dogs, 4-0, on Thursday night at Hadlock Field. Zeid struck out seven, scattered four hits and faced four batters or fewer in every inning to lead the B-Mets to their fourth straight victory.
In his first start at Hadlock Field since his Double-A debut in April 2011, Zeid side-stepped an early triple by Mauricio Dubon to post a scoreless first inning. He worked a perfect second before pitching around singles in the third and fourth. From the fourth through the eighth the righty retired 11 of 12 Sea Dogs.
Zeid’s last challenge arrived in the eighth. With a runner on second, Zeid coaxed a groundout from Yoan Moncada and struck out Dubon to end his stellar night.
The B-Mets supported Zeid with a superb defensive performance. Dominic Smith cleanly picked three scorched ground balls to first, Jayce Boyd made two smooth running catches in left and Champ Stuart ranged to the fence in right-center to rob to Dubon of an extra-base hit. In the third, Xorge Carrillo grabbed a short-hopped pitch by Zeid and nabbed Tzu-Wei Lin on the bases to nullify a rally.
Binghamton backed Zeid with an eight-hit attack against Portland starter Jacob Dahlstrand. After a leadoff single in the first, Champ Stuart swiped second and scored on consecutive groundouts to put the B-Mets on the board. Boyd pelted the center-field wall with an RBI double in the second.
In the fourth, Matt Oberste blasted a solo home run, his seventh of the season, to left-center. The B-Mets DH struck again in the fifth by zipping a two-out RBI single up the middle.
Zeid (3-3) walked a pair and held the Sea Dogs 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position in the victory. David Roseboom closed the game with a perfect ninth.
Dahlstrand (1-1) allowed four runs on eight hits over five innings in his first loss at Double-A. Taylor Grover and Ben Taylor combined for four scoreless innings out of Portland’s bullpen.
The B-Mets (45-51) continue their four-game series against Portland on Saturday night at 7:00 PM. RHP Mickey Jannis takes the mound against Teddy Stankiewicz.
