B-METS GRAND SLAM YARD GOATS 11-5

Carrillo is Grand in 11-5 Win
BINGHAMTON, NY- The Binghamton Mets erupted for 11 runs on 15 hits, including a grand slam and five RBI from Xorge Carrillo, to defeat the Hartford Yard Goats, 11-5. The B-Mets played as the road team Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium.
In the first the B-Mets got on the board as Matt Oberste drove in a run with a groundout. Hartford answered with three in the bottom of the second on three hits and an error to take a 3-1 lead.
The B-Mets fought back in the top of the third. Derrik Gibson doubled, Oberste singled and L.J. Mazzilli walked to load the bases. Carrillo then lanched a grand slam to left, emptying the bases and putting Binghamton on top, 5-3.
Carrillo’s grand slam was Binghamton’s third of the season. It was Carrillo’s first home run since April 21 against Erie and his first extra base hit since May 19 against Altoona.
Hartford got a run in the third on a Noel Cuevas RBI single. Binghamton matched that the top of the fourth as Amed Rosario drove in Tyler Pill with a sacrifice fly. The Yard Goats got another run back in the home half on a Michael Benjamin solo homer, cutting the lead to 6-5.
The B-Mets got some cushioning with two in the fifth. Maikis De La Cruz smacked an RBI single and Gibson earned an RBI with a bases loaded walk. In the seventh, Gibson drove in De La Cruz with a single to extend the lead to 9-5.
Binghamton added two more in the eighth as Rosario scored on an Oberste sacrifice fly and Carrillo knocked in Mazzilli with a single.
Pill (6-8) earned the win with five runs allowed, four earned, on ten hits in six innings. Carrillo was 3-for-5 with five RBI, two runs scored and a grand slam, Gibson went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored and Mazzilli finished 2-for-4 with a walk, three runs and a triple.
The four-game series concludes on Thursday with a 1:05 scheduled first pitch. Binghamton will start RHP Tyler Herron against RHP Zach Jemiola for Hartford. POSTGAME NOTES: Binghamton now has three grand slams on the season including two in the past seven games…Tyler Pill won his 22nd career game with the B-Mets, now second most in franchise history.
