MARSHALL KENT TAKES WORLD BOWLING TOUR MEN’S POINTS LEAD
Marshall Kent’s win in the Grand Casino Hotel & Resort PBA Oklahoma Open moved him into first place on the World Bowling Tour points list over England’s Dom Barrett. Sweden’s Martin Larsen retained third place on the list with stops in Malmo, Sweden; Bangkok, Thailand, and PBA World Championship in Reno remaining on the 2017 schedule leading into the three-man WBT Men’s Finals presented by PBA in November in Reno.

The top 10 on the 2017 points list are: Kent 273; Barrett 249; Martin Larsen 224; Anthony Simonsen, Austin, Texas, 210; EJ Tackett, Huntington, Ind., 203; Stuart Williams, 174; Sean Rash, Montgomery, Ill., 172; Jason Belmonte, Australia, 170; Jesper Svensson, Sweden, 165, and Thomas Larsen, Denmark, 162.

The current WBT Women’s Finals points leaders are Danielle McEwan, Stony Point, N.Y., 653; Liz Johnson, Deerfield, Ill., 521; Diana Zavjalova, Latvia, 354; Kelly Kulick, Union, N.J., 319, and Cheri Tan, Singapore, 307.

The WBT Men’s and Women’s Finals presented by the PBA will be held on Sunday, Nov. 19, at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno for airing on ESPN on Sunday, Jan. 7, at 1 p.m. ET.

PBA50 RETURNS TO XTRA FRAME AS FINAL LEG OF 2017 SEASON BEGINS
The final leg of the 2017 PBA50 Tour highlights the July and early August Xtra Frame schedule. The final three PBA50 events, plus the PBA60 Dick Weber Championship presented by Hammer, will close out the PBA50 Tour’s regular season. The concluding events of 2017 begin with the South Shore Open presented by DV8 from Hammond, Ind., July 25-27, followed by the Dave Small’s Championship Lanes Classic presented by Roto Grip July 30-Aug. 1 and the DeHayes Insurance Group Championship presented by Pro Bowl West and Ebonite Aug. 6-8. The PBA60 Dick Weber Championship airs Aug. 10-12.

Also on tap is the Xtra Frame Storm Striking Against Breast Cancer Mixed Doubles from Copperfield Bowl in Houston, Texas, July 28-30, which will award PBA and PWBA Tour titles, followed by the preliminary rounds of the U.S. Women’s Open from Plano Super Bowl in Plano, Texas, Aug. 1-5. The U.S. Women’s Open finals will air live on CBS Sports Network on Sunday, Aug. 6, at noon EDT.

The PBA Xtra Frame Storm Cup will become August’s focal point when the final three events in the 2017 series are on the calendar: the Xtra Frame Chesapeake Open from AMF Western Branch in Chesapeake, Va., Aug. 12-13; the Xtra Frame Gene Carter’s Pro Shop Classic from Mid-County Bowling and Entertainment in Middletown, Del., Aug. 19-20, and the series finale, the Xtra Frame Kenn-Feld Group Classic from Pla-Mor Lanes in Coldwater, Ohio, Aug. 26-27.

PBA REGIONAL UPDATE: PUERTO RICO’S AZCONA WINS IN ALBANY, GEORGIA
Puerto Rico’s Cristian Azcona defeated Chris Arcaro of Carolina Beach, N.C., 199-196, 227-196, in the best-of-three-game championship match to win the inaugural PBA Albany Strikers South Open title at Albany Strikers Lanes in Albany, Ga., Sunday.

Azcona, a rookie currently living in Lake Wales, Fla., collected $2,300 for his second win following his victory in Myrtle Beach, S.C. in April. In the semifinal round, Arcaro eliminated Dwight Adams of Greensboro, N.C., 217-172, 202-172, while Azcona defeated Jeff Evans of Supply, N.C., 198-192, 207-198, in the other best-of-three bracket.

● AJ Johnson of Oswego, Ill., defeated PBA rookie Nick Kruml of Downers Grove, Ill., 219-181, to win the PBA St. Charles Lanes Midwest Region Open at St. Charles Lanes Sunday. Johnson collected his third regional title along with $2,300.

Johnson defeated Brad Miller of Kansas City, Mo., 247-203, in the semifinal game to advance to the championship match. Miller defeated Kyle Krol of Tinley Park, Ill., 234-197, in the first match.
