RailRiders Settle for Split with Knights
Jake Cave Extends PNC Field Hitting Streak to 20 Games


Moosic, Pa. – The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) dropped a 5-3 decision to the Charlotte Knights on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field. The RailRiders (63-37) split the four-game series with the Knights (42-58) and finished the homestand 4-3.

The Knights played five runs against starter Brady Lail (5-4) in a decisive third inning. Lail was lifted after 6.2 innings. He yielded eight hits, two walks and struck out four. Tyler Danish (3-9) escaped a couple of jams to keep the RailRiders at three runs on seven hits over six innings. He fanned two. Brandon Brennan allowed a single to Jonathan Diaz in the ninth, but kept SWB off the scoreboard for his first save.

The RailRiders combined for three straight hits by Mark PaytonWilkin Castillo and Abiatal Avelino for a second-inning run and a 1-0 lead.

After the Knights plated five in the third, the RailRiders closed within two thanks to two runs in the fifth. Donovan Solano reached on a fielding error by Nicky Delmonico at third and Diaz scored. A single from Jake Cave loaded the bases and Mike Ford rocketed a sacrifice fly to deep left-center.

Cave finished the day 3-for-4 and extended his hitting streak at PNC Field to 20 games.

The 2016 Gildan Triple-A National Champion RailRiders begin a four-game road series against the Norfolk Tides (Baltimore Orioles) at Harbor Park on Monday, July 24. A 7:05 p.m. first pitch will feature right-hander Domingo German (2-1, 3.86) against right-hander Gabriel Ynoa (2-8, 7.14).
