LARGE CROWD AT DeVantier FUND RAISER

ROSCOE--Sixth-seven year-old well-known Roscoe resident Peter DeVantier is battling oral cancer and the true love of the man was on display at the March 8 fundraiser for him held by the Roscoe-Rockland Fire Department where over 600 people attended the Spaghetti dinner to help with travel and housing expenses.

With over 99 percent of the food donated along with merchandise and prizes as well as a 50/50 the benefit was termed by fire officials to be a very successful fund raiser.

Part of the large turnout were fire department members from surrounding communities.

"I'm overwhelmed with the kindness shown here tonight," DeVantier said while going table to table getting hugs and handshakes and best wishes.

A lifetime resident of Roscoe, DeVantier noted he was born in the old Callicoon Hospital and has been an active 48-year fire department member joining in 1968.
He is the owner and President of the  Roscoe Lumber Company which was originally purchased by his father in 1948.

DeVantier is an active member of the Roscoe Chamber of Commerce, is one of two line officers in the fire department, has been a former commissioner of the Roscoe-Rockland Fire Department, is completing three years as councilman on the Rockland Town Board and is a certificate member of the Twin Village Golf Club and an active player in the Monday Men's league.

Additional community activity  included coach for 16 years of the Roscoe Central School Junior Varsity boys basketball team, coach of the varsity track team for five years, girls varsity softball coach for five years and assistant baseball coach for a number of years.

DeVantier noted that he first had a medical problem in his mouth,"that just didn't seem to go away in the fall of last year and on December 1 an examination disclosed I had oral cancer."
He underwent  11-hours of  extensive surgery and now is awaiting a  medical report that will determine if he is to receive radiation or chemo therapy.
DeVantier is married to his wife Patricia and they have four children, three sons  and a daughter.
