Hartford’s Big Inning One-Ups B-Mets in 8-6 LossBINGHAMTON, NY- The Hartford Yard Goats scored five times in the fifth inning en route to an 8-6 win over the Binghamton Mets, Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium. The B-Mets played as the road team in a game that was closed to the public.
With the B-Mets leading 4-2 in the fifth, Hartford saw its first five men reach against Rainy Lara. Three singles loaded the bases and Noel Cuevas emptied them with a three-run double. Ryan McMahon then yanked a two-run homer to right, putting the Yard Goats on top, 7-4.
Hartford added a run in the seventh when Ciriaco singled in Cuevas. The B-Mets got a run on a Jayce Boyd sacrifice fly in the eighth, then one more on an Amed Rosario single in the ninth, cutting the deficit to 8-6. The B-Mets brought the tying run to the plate but ultimately fell short.
Binghamton started fast in the top of the first, aided by the Hartford defense. Rosario bounced a two-out grounder to shortstop that Juan Ciriaco whiffed on, allowing him to reach. He later scored on a Matt Oberste single, putting the B-Mets on the board. Victor Cruzado followed that with a three-run homer to right, giving Binghamton a 4-0 lead.
The Yard Goats responded in the first as Ciriaco walked and took third on a Pat Valaika single, the first allowed by Rainy Lara. Rosell Herrera then singled up the middle, scoring Ciriaco to put Hartford on the board, 4-1.
In the fourth, Ryan McMahon led off with a single. He later scored on a Jackson Williams sacrifice fly, cutting Binghamton’s lead to 4-2.
Lara (6-9) allowed seven runs on ten hits over five innings and was tagged with the loss. Alex Balog (4-0) allowed four runs, all unearned, over seven innings and struck out five in the winning effort.
Oberste went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI and Cruzado was 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk.
