B-METS BURST PHILS 7-3

B-Mets Burst By Fightin Phils, 7-3
BINGHAMTON, NY- The Binghamton Mets used big innings to vault themselves past the Reading Fightin Phils, 7-3, Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Phillip Evans went 2-for-5 with a homer and Matt Oberste drove in two to pace the B-Mets offense. Paul Paez worked three innings in relief and earned his second Double-A win.
Reading struck first in the top of the third as Angelo Mora led off with a single. He later scored on a two-out single by Jorge Alfaro and the Fightin Phils took a 1-0 lead.
The B-Mets offense busted loose in the third, as Maikis De La Cruz smacked a one-out single. He was sacrificed to second base and scored on a Champ Stuart single to tie the game. Evans then cranked a two-run homer to left, giving the B-Mets the lead. Amed Rosario followed with a single and later scored on an Oberste double, giving the B-Mets a 4-1 lead.
In the fifth, Roman Quinn roped a two-out triple then scored on an Andrew Pullin single. Reading got one more in the seventh as Scott Kingery led off with a double and the Fightins loaded the bases with one out. Kingery scored on a Dylan Cozens sacrifice fly but Tim Peterson limited the damage and the B-Mets lead held at 4-3.
Binghamton got some breathing room in the seventh. Rosario singled then Dominic Smith bounced a grounder towards second. Kingery fielded but threw wildly to second, allowing Smith to reach and sending Rosario to third. A wild pitch from Victor Arano scored Rosario then Oberste singled in Smith. Colton Plaia later smacked a double down the left field line, scoring Oberste to give the B-Mets a 7-3 advantage.
Rafael Montero struck out four and allowed one run on four hits but exited after three innings. Paez (2-0) earned the win with three innings of one-run ball and two strikeouts in relief.
Evans went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI, De La Cruz went 2-for-4 and Oberste finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

POSTGAME NOTES: Dominic Smith went 1-for-3 and extended his hitting streak to nine games…Phillip Evans’ home run was his sixth of the season, surpassing his career-high of five set in 2012 with Brooklyn…David Roseboom worked a 1-2-3 ninth and has 14 consecutive scoreless appearances.
