EVANS LG. PLAYER OF WEEK

Evans Named League Player of the Week
BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton Met infielder Phillip Evans has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week. In six games during the week (August 15-21), the California native went 16-for-26 (.615) at the plate with five doubles, a home run and five RBI. Entering Monday’s game, Evans has collected at least three hits in each of his last five games.
Drafted by the Mets in the 15th round in 2011, Evans is enjoying his best professional season. In 81 games since his promotion to Double-A in late April, he is hitting .339 with a team-high 27 doubles and a career-high seven home runs.
Evans is making a strong big to finish among the top of the pack on the Eastern League leader board. He needs 65 more plate appearances over Binghamton’s final 15 games in order to qualify.
Evans is the second B-Met to receive weekly league honors this season. Rafael Montero was named Pitcher of the Week in early August.
Evans and the B-Mets (58-67) open a three-game series against the Hartford Yard Goats at 6:35 PM on Monday. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting a 6:20 PM on News Radio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
