NEW BIOGRAPHY ABOUT PBA LEGEND EARL ANTHONY IS COMING SOON
Veteran bowling writer Barry Sparks of York, Pa., has authored the first comprehensive biography covering the life and accomplishments of PBA legend Earl Anthony, which can now be ordered from Luby Publishing.

“EARL: The Greatest Bowler of All Time,” is Sparks’ 293-page compilation of more than 100 interviews with people who crossed paths with Anthony and includes more than two dozen vintage photos from Anthony’s career. Anthony, who held the PBA Tour titles record with 43 for several years before being surpassed by Walter Ray Williams Jr. (47), was selected as the PBA’s greatest player in the 2009 celebration of the 50 Greatest Players in PBA history.

To place an order for the book, visit www.earlanthonybook.com. Ten percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Earl Anthony Scholarship Fund that is managed by the United States Bowling Congress.

DID YOU KNOW “HI AND LOIS” ARE INTO BOWLING?
“Hi and Lois” is an American comic strip about the suburban Flagstone family. Created by Mort Walker and illustrated by Dik Browne, it debuted on Oct. 18, 1954, and is distributed to newspapers across America by King Features Syndicate.

With those family-oriented ties, it only makes sense that – 65 years later – the family comic strip would acknowledge its bowling roots. Now produced by the sons of the original creative team, the strip is written by Brian and Greg Walker and drawn by Robert "Chance" Browne and Eric Reaves, and it appears in 1,000 newspapers across the country. Here’s a link to the strip featuring the Flagstone’s teenage son Chip ran this week: https://www.comicskingdom.com/hi-and-lois/2019-10-17.

Trivia tidbit about the strip: did you know that Hiram and Lois Flagstone first appeared in Mort Walker’s “Beetle Bailey” cartoon strip…and that Lois is actually Beetle Bailey’s sister?

FOX SPORTS, FACEBOOK COLLABORATION TO INCLUDE PBA HIGHLIGHTS
FOX Sports is teaming with Facebook to create new, exclusive interactive programs and segments on Facebook Watch that will focus on football, sports wagering and more, including highlights from the 2020 PBA Tour season.

The new weekly FOX Football Sunday program streams on the platform each Monday morning during the season where fans on Facebook can submit questions to Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Michael Strahan, Tony Gonzalez and Curt Menefee. Additionally, every Sunday night, Menefee will host FOX Football Update, a recap of the day’s action with FOX Sports analysts from game locations.

The new collaboration between FOX Sports and Facebook will also offer regular highlights from Liga MX, Big East basketball, NASCAR, Premier Boxing Championships and PBA Tour events.

PBA60 competitor Joe Nuzzo of Girard, Ohio and his PBA50 partner Danny Guerrieri of Youngstown, Ohio, defeated Bill Peters of Dayton, Ohio and Eddie Graham of Kettering, Ohio, 482-479, 475-395, in the best-of-three-game championship match to win the Park Centre Lanes PBA50/PBA60 Central Open Doubles event presented by Columbia 300 in North Canton, Ohio, Sunday.

Teams in the event included one bowler between the ages of 50 and 59 and one bowler over the age of 60. Even though the champions split the $2,800 first prize, neither earned a PBA title because both are non-members.

In the best-of-three-game semifinal round, Nuzzo and Guerrieri blanked PBA Hall of Famer Tom Baker of King, N.C., and partner Dean Billings of Rootstown, Ohio, 2-0, while Peters and Graham downed Jeff Zaffino of Warren, Pa., and Don Herrington of Ballston Lake, N.Y., 2-0, to set up the championship match.

• PBA Regional tournaments scheduled for the Oct. 18-20 weekend include the PBA50 Timber Lanes Open in Oxford, Pa.; the PBA50 Waxahachie Southwest Open at Hilltop Lanes in Waxahachie, Texas; the PBA and PBA50 Northwest/West Opens presented by Dick’s Pro Shop and Boulder Falls Inn at Linn Lanes in Lebanon, Ore.; the Greater Jackson Central Open at Jax’s 60 in Jackson, Mich., and the Bowl-A-Vard Lanes Midwest Open in Madison, Wis.

Closing out the October PBA Regional calendar will be the South Point West Challenge presented by MOTIV and the South Point Member/Non-Member Doubles presented by Hammer at South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas.

PBA Southwest Region Hall of Famer Nathan Bohr, a 23-time PBA Regional title-winner and three-time Southwest Region Player of the Year, married two-time PWBA champion and 11-year Team Colombia competitor Maria Jose Rodriguez Saturday in Austin, Texas.
