CHRIS WARREN WINS RECORD 55TH PBA REGIONAL TITLE IN WAXAHACHIE
Defending champion Chris Warren, a native Texan now living in Grants Pass, Ore., built a 238-pin lead after the 13 games of qualifying and then coasted in the eight-game round robin finals to win a record 55th PBA Regional title by repeating as the PBA50 Waxahachie Southwest Open titlist at Hilltop Lanes in Waxahachie, Texas, Sunday.
Warren defeated runner-up Pete Thomas from Oklahoma City, Okla., 227-201, in the final position round match for a 4,896-4,695 victory, including match play bonus pins. Thomas held off third-place finisher Paul Fleming of Ft. Worth, Texas, who finished with 4,649 total pins, to stay in second place.
Along with his eighth PBA50 Regional title to go along with his 47 standard PBA Regional wins, Warren earned the $2,000 winner’s check.
Warren improved his lead in the overall PBA Regional titles race to three over Dale Traber, Pete Weber and Walter Ray Williams Jr. who have each won 52 PBA Regional titles. Warren and Weber share the standard PBA Regional titles lead with 47 each while Harry Sullins of Chesterfield Township, Mich., is the PBA50 Regional titles leader with 24 wins. “PBA PLAYER’S PERSPECTIVE” RETURNS WITH NORM DUKE REVISITING 2011 U.S. OPEN
PBA Player’s Perspective, a series of special YouTube interviews with PBA title winners reflecting on their victories in selected title matches, returns on Tuesday, Oct. 29, when PBA Hall of Famer Norm Duke revisits his stunning victory over Mika Koivuniemi in the 2011 U.S. Open.
The weekly series, with new perspectives released to the PBA’s YouTube home page, will feature the following players providing personal play-by-play reflections in the weeks ahead:

PBA, IBM/HF PARTNER FOR SPECIAL “VIP EXPERIENCE” AT PBA HALL OF FAME CLASSIC
The PBA and the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame are teaming up to offer bowling fans a unique experience in conjunction with the PBA Hall of Fame Classic in January that will kick off the PBA Tour’s 2020 season.
The PBA Hall of Fame Classic will take place at the International Bowling Campus in Arlington, Texas, which is home to the IBM/HF and the International Training and Research Center, where the PBA Hall of Fame Classic will be contested – all as part of a weekend that will include the induction of PBA Hall of Famers Tommy Jones, Mike Slade and Rob Glaser on Saturday, Jan. 18. The weekend will conclude with the tournament’s stepladder finals, live on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) on Sunday, Jan. 19, at 1 p.m. EST.
The IBM/HF is holding a special auction with one fan receiving a Hall of Fame VIP Experience to the weekend’s activities on Jan. 18-19. The auction is underway at BowlingMuseumAuctions.com. The winner will be announced Dec. 11 at noon Eastern on the IBM/HF Facebook page and will receive:

Chris Gibbons of Madison, Wis. threw three strikes in his final frame Sunday to defeat non-PBA member Jason French of Levittown, N.Y., 236-234, to win the PBA Bowl-A-Vard Midwest Open at Bowl-A-Vard Lanes in his hometown for his first PBA Regional title in 29 years.
Gibbons, who had not won a PBA Regional title since winning his only previous regional title in Belleville, Ill. in 1990, earned a first-place check for $2,500. In the first match of the three-player stepladder finals, French defeated Jerry Marrs of Lake in the Hills, Ill., 235-187, to advance to the title match.
— Darryl Bower of Middletown, Pa. compiled an 8-0 match play record and a 16-game total of 3,417 pins to win the PBA50 Timber Lanes Open at Timber Lanes in Oxford, Pa., Sunday for his 16th career PBA Regional title.
Bower entered the position round match trailing Sammy Ventura of Norwich, N.Y. by 10 pins. Bower doubled in the 10th frame to force Ventura to throw the first strike to win the game and earn the 30 bonus pins. Ventura failed to strike, giving Bower a 215-199 win and the title by a final margin of 36 pins, 3,417-3,381.
The win was Bower’s fifth in PBA50 Regional competition to go along with 11 standard regional titles. He also received $1,500 for the win.
— Joe Cannon of Puyallup, Wash., posted a 6-1-1 match play record and knocked down 4,140 pins Sunday to win the PBA50 Dick’s Pro Shop Northwest/West Open at Linn Lanes in Lebanon, Ore., for his first PBA50 Regional title.
Cannon, who earned $1,500, defeated non-PBA member Mal Acosta of Lebanon, Ore., by 301 pins for a convincing win. Acosta had a 4-4 match play record and 3,839 total pins for his 16 games including match play bonus pins.
In the companion PBA60 Open for bowlers age 60 and older, Hugh Miller of Mercer Island, Wash., went 6-2 and knocked down 4,042 total pins for 16 games to top John Gould of Yuba City, Calif., by 114 pins and earn $1,500. Gould had a 5-3 match play record and a total of 3,928 pins. This was Miller’s eighth win as a “senior” player, and his first in the 60-and-older category.
— Kyle Mayberry of Mechanicsburg, Ohio defeated Justin Knowles of Okemos, Mich., 269-209, to win the PBA Greater Jackson Central Open at Dave Small’s JAX 60 in Jackson, Mich., Sunday for his third career regional title and the $2,000 first prize.
Mayberry topped Chandler Stevens of Archbold, Ohio, 203-169 and Knowles downed Patrick Dombrowski of Parma, Ohio, 276-192 to set up the championship match.
• Closing out the October PBA Regional calendar will be the South Point West Challenge presented by MOTIV and the South Point Member/Non-Member Doubles presented by Hammer at South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas.
— A busy schedule of events is on tap for November as the PBA Regional program begins to wrap up the 2019 season, beginning with the Nov. 1-3 weekend. On the schedule are the PBA-PBA50 Callahan’s Bowling for Gold Over-Under Doubles presented by TechVision at Callahan’s Bowl O Rama in Newington, Conn.; the PBA-PBA50 Decker Appraisal Services Doubles presented by Hammer at Interstate Bowl in Bristol, Va.; the Mesa East Open presented by Columbia 300 at Mesa East Bowl in Mesa, Ariz., and the one-day Ft. Wayne Central-Midwest Open at Pro Bowl West in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
— The Nov. 8-10 calendar of PBA Regional activity includes the La-Z-Boy Central Challenge for non-title winners at Monroe Sports Center in Monroe, Mich.; the Plaza Bowl Midwest Open presented by Roto Grip in Clinton, Iowa, and the Gastonia South Open presented by Brunswick at George Pappas’ Liberty Lanes in Gastonia, N.C.
— On the Nov. 15-17 PBA Regional weekend schedule are the PBA50 Bryan’s Bowling Center Eastern Open presented by 900 Global in Laurel, Del.; the PBA50 PLYGEM Windows Rocky Mount South Open at Rocky Mount Bowling Center in Rocky Mount, Va., and the Japan Region’s High Sports Cup Chameleon Open at Kashima Bowl in Kashima, Japan.
