BOWLING HIGHLIGHTS COLUMN

J.J. Wilhelm Jr. Scores
  First 300 Game

Bowling's future lies in the hands of young bowlers and Sullivan County has one of these young bowlers who we predict can go far with the talent he presently puts forth.
Following in the footsteps of his father Jon "Urethane" Wilhelm, J.J. Wilhelm Jr., a 2019 graduate  of Tri-Valley Central School has taken an outstanding youth league career into regular league bowling and on October 14 in the Kiamesha Lanes Monday Men's league on lanes 7-8 recorded his first career 300 game.
  His scores included a 300, 202, 170 for a 672 series.
Like many bowlers today J.J. bowls with two hands with no thumb and is left-handed. He has been bowling this style for some three years after switching from the standard one-handed bowling style.
Bowling since the age of 6 he has received many tips and coaching from his dad and many others.
His favorite professional bowlers are Jason Belmonte and Jesper Svensson both who use the two-handed style of bowling.
J.J.'s Monday Men's league teammates include his father Jon Wilhelm, Tom Belgiovene, Jaryl Scott and Vinny Collura.
An avid sports fan he likes the New York Giants, Miami Heat and the New York Mets.
He used a 15-pound Storm Ride bowling ball for the 300 game and only uses Storm and Roto Grip bowling equipment. He is also picking up how to throw Urethane equipment like his father uses.
His average at the present time is 209 on Monday night and 205 in the Tuesday Mixed Fireman league where he also bowls with his father, Kyle Giordano, Steve Belgiovene and Tom Belgiovene.
A multiple time NYS USBC youth Pepsi tournament finalist J.J. is looking forward to testing his skills at his first Professional Bowling Association (PBA) regional event.
Single, J.J. is presently employed at Monticello Walmart.

The Bowling Tip
By Mike Luongo

This week we will discuss advanced bowling techniques for bowlers who consider themselves hardcore bowlers.
Here are several suggestions to improve your game.
  * Learn to control your bowling ball speed which can be of great help when adjusting to various lane conditions.
  * I hear the word "choke" used a lot and a deep breath to relax you will help your bowling under pressure.
  * Learn your bowling ball path...this will help in many ways.
  * The mental side of bowling is just as important as the physical side. When you arrive at the bowling lanes use your mind to only think about what you should be doing with the bowling ball.
  * Always make sure that your bowling ball is drilled properly.
  * Learn to get out of the bowling slump quickly, ask your pro-shop operator for suggestions.
  * Make your bowling competition fun.

2019 Go Bowling! PBA Tour Top Earners Battle in PBA Clash Sunday on FOX
Belmonte, Butturff, O’Neill, Prather, Tackett, Simonsen, Rash and Duke
compete for $50,000 winner-take-all first prize in second eliminator showdown

The top eight money earners from the 2019 Go Bowling! PBA Tour season will battle for a $50,000 winner-take-all first prize when the second edition of the PBA Clash airs on FOX Sunday from the renowned Kegel Training Center.
Four-time PBA Player of the Year and 22-time Go Bowling! PBA Tour titlist Jason Belmonte of Australia leads an elite field that also includes 2019 standouts Jakob Butturff, Bill O’Neill, Kris Prather, EJ Tackett, Anthony Simonsen, Sean Rash and PBA Hall of Famer Norm Duke.
As a preamble to the 2020 season on FOX Sports, competition begins Sunday with “eliminator” rounds leading up to a full-game championship match between the two survivors.  In the first round, all eight players beginning with the No. 8 qualifier will bowl a 10th frame. The player with the lowest pinfall will be eliminated. The non-title special event converts to a one-ball format for rounds 2-6 with the player rolling the lowest pinfall eliminated until the surviving two players are determined for the championship match.
All competition will be conducted on a mixed (or dual) lane condition – 44-foot PBA Billy Hardwick lane condition on the left lane and 37-foot Johnny Petraglia lane condition on the right lane.
The PBA Clash airs on FOX adjacent to the NFL Singleheader on Sunday, Nov. 3 (2:30 p.m. ET or 4:30 p.m. ET) depending on region. Viewers should check their local listings for air times in their areas.
Here’s a look at the eight competitors along with their season highlights:

Doing Nothing Is Doing Something

The wall plaque in our Water's Edge Garden City South Carolina condo reads, "The Beach Where Doing Absolutely Nothing Is Doing Something."
Now before I start to classify myself as a Beach Bum I have to honestly note that I'm not sure I can fit myself into that category because I don't tan easily I just turn red and then peel and many people believe that talk about beach bums is done in a negative way.
The Beach Bums I saw had great tans and it was hard to believe the many folks who fish and not with one pole but two and three. They cast from the water's edge into the waves and the undertow takes their bated hook sometimes as far out in the ocean as 100 yards.
Quite honestly I preferred the Jacuzzi hot tubs located both outdoors and indoors and I prefer the heated indoor pool. The sun does me harm if I stay in it too long.
Shirley like many others walk the beach early in the morning while I like sitting on the balcony sipping my morning coffee watching the waves come into the beach.
At the Water's Edge all the condo's are privately owned.....met one couple from Monticello who own three condo's and rents two of them out....a nice retired income gig.
Of course being a beach bum is really just a state of mind because it does really help to have a beach to bum on but don't think we would enjoy doing that year round. I like the idea of doing it a couple months of the year because we love New York and what it offers in the spring, summer and fall.
Of course nobody's perfect, even at beach bummin, but we all try....to be a good beach bum you have to relax.
Life isn't easy, that is why God made the beach. It's his way of giving us an escape.
So if you want to be a beach bum, just relax and take it easy.
We'll give you another chapter on this when we try our first full month there.

The beach view alone is relaxing at the Water's Edge in Garden City, South Carolina.
