RENEGADES TAKES TWO IN A ROW

Trag, Mac, Moore and a Winning Score Renegades Take Second-Straight from Scrappers   NILES, OH—First baseman Jacson McGowan went 2-3 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI, while the combination of starting pitcher Zack Trageton and reliever Steffon Moore held the opposition at bay as the Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 5-2 Sunday evening from Eastwood Field.  The win was the Renegades’ eighth in their last nine games and guaranteed them a series win over the Scrappers.

The teams traded runs in the first.  In the top-half, singles by designated hitter Greg Jones and rightfielder Hill Alexander put runners at the corners with one out when McGowan lofted a sacrifice fly to right to score Jones.  In the bottom-half, back-to-back doubles from third baseman Raynel Delgado and centerfielder George Valera tied the game with Valera picking up the RBI.

The game stayed tied until the sixth when the Renegades scored two runs to take the lead for good.  Alexander started the inning by reaching on an infield single to short.  A wild pitch moved him to second before McGowan launched a ground-rule double to right to give Hudson Valley the lead.  Leftfielder Beau Brundage followed with an RBI single into right to score McGowan and up the lead to 3-1.

Hudson Valley added insurance with single runs in the seventh and eighth innings.  Third baseman Kevin Santiago started the inning with a double to center, then went to third on a wild pitch.  Centefielder K.V. Edwards came up next and ripped a single to right to make the score 4-1.  In the eighth, McGowan led off with a double to right, advanced to third on a wild pitch, then scored three batters later on a sacrifice fly to center from catcher Jordyn Muffley.

The Scrappers had only six hits in the game.  In fact, after allowing the run in the first, Trageton and Moore combined to set down 22 of the next 25 Mahoning Valley batters from the last hitter of the first to the leadoff man in the ninth.

Mahoning Valley got a leadoff double by Delgado to begin the ninth.  After back-to-back strikeouts from Moore, rightfielder Johnathan Rodriguez lashed another double to left to score Delgado and make the score 5-2.  However, Moore settled down and got the next batter to fly to right to end the game.

In addition to McGowan, the Renegades picked up 12 hits, which made it the fourth time in the last five games Hudson Valley had collected 10 or more hits.  Along with McGowan, Jones, Alexander and Santiago each had two base-knocks.  Jones doubled and scored a run, Alexander also scored once, and Santiago doubled while scoring a run as well.

For the Scrappers, Delgado and Valera each finished with two hits and a double.  Delgado scored both Mahoning Valley runs while Valera drove one in.

Trageton (4-2) got the win for Hudson Valley after he allowed a run on four hits over 5.2 innings.  The loss went to Mahoning Valley reliever Maiker Manzanillo (0-1) who gave up three runs on five hits in 1.2 frames.  The save by Moore was his first of the season.  The right-hander punched out five while allowing a run over two hits in a season-high 3.1 innings.     Hudson Valley will go for the sweep tomorrow when they take on Mahoning Valley in a 7:05 start.  The Renegades will send righthander Rodolfo Sanchez (0-0, 2.25 ERA) to the hill against fellow-righty Ethan Hankins (0-0, 1.25 ERA) of the Scrappers.

The Renegades return home on Wednesday, July 17 when they take on the Brooklyn Cyclones in game one of a three-game set.  Firstpitch is scheduled for 7:05.  Tickets are on sale and can be purchased online at hvrenegades.com, in person at the Dutchess Stadium ticket window, or by calling the ticket office at 845-838-0094.
