METS WIN OVER RAILRIDERS 4-2

Travis Taijeron hit a two-run home run for Syracuse on Thursday night (Danny Tripodi).

Syracuse, NY (July 11, 2019) - The Syracuse Mets started the post-All-Star Break part of their schedule with a 4-2 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Thursday night at NBT Bank Stadium. All nine batters in the Mets lineup reached base at least once in the game.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (52-38) struck first in the top of the second inning. With two outs, Ryan Lavarnway hit a line-drive home run to right field with two outs to put the Triple-A Yankees out to a 1-0 lead.

Syracuse (43-47) responded in the bottom of the second with a home run of its own. René Rivera led off with a single. One batter later, Taijeron deposited a ball over the left-field wall for a two-run homer that gave the Mets their first lead, 2-1.

The Mets extended their lead in the third. With one out, Rajai Davis doubled. Grégor Blanco followed with a single to center field to push the Syracuse lead to two, 3-1.

The RailRiders got a run closer in the sixth. Tyler Wade launched a solo home run over the right-field wall to make it a 3-2 ballgame.

Syracuse got the run back in the seventh. Tim Tebow ripped a double with one out and advanced to third base on the play because of a throwing error by RailRiders left fielder Clint Frazier. From there, Rymer Liriano drove Tebow in with a single to right field, giving Syracuse a 4-2 advantage.

Mets starting pitcher Drew Gagnon allowed just two runs in six innings on the mound while tying his season high with eight strikeouts and just one walk.

Syracuser relievers Stephen Nogosek, Jacob Rhame, and Tim Peterson all pitched scoreless innings for Syracuse to secure the victory.

The Mets host the RailRiders again on Friday night. LHP Anthony Kay will be on the mound for Syracuse opposite Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RHP Randall Delgado. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium.
