SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE RAILRIDERS GAME REPORT
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 6 - Buffalo 1
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BUFFALO, NY (April 5, 2019)– Thursday, it was the Buffalo Bisons who got the bats started early against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Friday night, the game began with a ringing double off the bat of SWB leadoff man Trey Amburgey and the RailRiders never looked back after grabbing a 2-0 lead in the first inning en route to a 6-1 win.
After an RBI double from Giovanny Urshela (3-for-5, 2B, 2 R, RBI), Mandy Alvarez plated Urshela with a two-out RBI for that early 2-0 lead. Starting pitcher Nestor Cortes made that lead stick, as he faced just one batter over the minimum over the first five innings before being pulled with two outs in the sixth inning following a two-out double by Bo Bichette. Cortes struck out nine batters- one off his Triple-A career-high- and scattered three hits over 5.2 innings in which he needed just 75 pitches.
The only damage done against RailRiders pitching Friday night was a mammoth blast from INF Andy Burns in the bottom of the seventh inning. At that point, it trimmed the deficit to 2-1 but the Bisons allowed the RailRiders to score twice in the eighth inning and twice in the ninth inning to extend their lead to the 6-1 final. Joe Harvey entered out of the bullpen for an unblemished final four outs in which he struck out a batter and notched his first save of the season.
In their respective first games in the Yankees organization, Cliff Pennington (1-for-3, 2B, HBP) and Billy Burns (1-for-4, R, SB) each notched hits. Meanwhile, Matt Lipka (1-for-3, BB, R, SB) built on his strong debut Thursday and has reached in four of his first eight plate appearances of the season.
After knotting the series 1-1, the RailRiders get back to action Saturday afternoon with a matinee affair against the Bisons in Game 3 of the four-game series. RHP Chance Adams (No. 13, NYY) takes the ball for SWB against Buffalo’s RHP Sean Reid-Foley (No. 8, TOR). First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. with pregame coverage at 12:35 p.m. on the RailRiders Radio Network with Adam Marco and Adam Giardino.
