BIG WIN OVER ELDRED

GRAHAMSVILLE--Steady improvement and a lot of dedication and hard work for a very young team rewarded the Tri-Valley girls varsity team with an upset victory Wednesday afternoon defeating the 20th ranked Class D Eldred Yellowjackets 5-3.
Eldred had just defeated Tri-Valley 9-4 in the 1st Annual Monticello tournament held last Saturday but the new week of competition for Tri-Valley started off on a high note with a 20-3 win over S.S. Seward which clinched a spot for the Lady Bears in the Section 9 Class C playoffs.
The victory over S.S. Seward totally reversed an early season loss when the Spartans took advantage of numerous Tri-Valley errors to ink a 11-4 victory.
In that loss Tri-Valley coach Claire Moore stated that she had "a very young team that want's to learn and I can't wait to see Seward again."
Tri-Valley entered the season minus three of last years standouts and was forced to bring up players from their junior varsity and modified teams which also forced the cancellation of the junior varsity team program.
The early season errors have been greatly reduced as was evident in Wednesday's game against Eldred as infield ground balls easily found their way into Bears gloves and accurate throws for outs were recorded at first base.
Wednesday's low scoring game saw Eldred get on the scoreboard first with two  runs in the top of the first off runs scored by Keisey Collins and Kass Weatherly and one run in the second scored by  Sandi Clemmons.
The 3-0 score held up until the bottom of the fourth when Tri-Valley's Morgan Shamro blasted a two-run homerun over the left center field fence reducing Eldred's lead down to 3-2.
Shamro added another single in this game driving in three runs.
This was Morgan's third homerun in her last three games.
Tri-Valley winning pitcher Kacie Allison and good infield defense kept Eldred off the scoreboard throughout the remainder of the game as the Bears added three runs in the bottom of the fifth with Ashton Krummack, Nicole Beach and Jordan Carmody crossing the plate.
Nicole Beach doubled and singled and Jordan Carmody added an RBI single for Tri-Valley who enters sectional play with an 8-8 record.
Kass Weatherly doubled twice and Sami Clemmons added two singles for Eldred who is now 13-4. Eldred also will be in the Section 9 Class D playoffs.
Tri-Valley going into this game had lost twice to Eldred, once in Eldred and then again last Saturday at Monticello.
Eldred coach Ryan Jasper in post-game remarks said, "we made too many mistakes today and Tri-Valley has improved a lot over the season and they look to be good for quite a while."
An elated Tri-Valley coach (Claire Moore) following this big win said, "we've been fired up this week with the win at Seward and now tonight."
"I told the team from the start that we were going to earn it because we are good softball players and we did that today," Coach Moore added.
Special ceremonies after the game honored the three graduating seniors, Ashton Krummack, Briana Mandes and Elizabeth Hannold.
