B-METS LOSE 7-1

Bats Packed Up Early on Getaway Day, 7-1
AKRON, OH – The Binghamton Mets collected just five hits, all singles and none after the fourth inning, in a 7-1 loss to the Akron RubberDucks on Sunday afternoon at Canal Park. Akron catcher Eric Haase drove in four runs to hand the B-Mets their third sweep of the season. Binghamton closed the game 0-for-16 at the plate and suffered their 13th loss in 16 games.
B-Met starter Casey Delgado fanned Akron cleanup hitter Nellie Rodriguez with the bases loaded in the third, one of his season-best seven strikeouts, but failed to escape the inning unharmed. Xorge Carrillo muffed the righty’s next pitch, enabling Todd Hankins to come home with Akron’s second run. Haase doubled the lead by depositing a two-out, two-run double into the right-field alley.
Akron starter Michael Peoples limited the B-Mets to five singles over six innings in his first victory in three chances against Binghamton. LJ Mazzilli provided Binghamton’s only run off the righty by poking a two-out RBI single into right in the fourth, the B-Mets’ last hit of the game. Peoples bounced back from the hit and closed his day by retiring the last seven batters he faced.
Akron tacked on three runs in the seventh, highlighted by a two-run homer by Haase. Cole Sulser struck out two over two perfect innings of relief and Justin Brantley worked a blank ninth to seal Akron’s 15th consecutive home victory.
Delgado (1-2) allowed four runs on four hits and four walks over 4-2/3 innings in the loss. Peoples (4-1) struck out three over six innings in his second victory in as many starts.
The B-Mets (17-24) return to the Southern Tier for an eight-game homestand. Binghamton opens a four-game series against the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Monday night at 6:35 PM.
