Wurtsboro bowler James Durland and Grahamsville kegler Kyle Matthews each recorded their first career 300 games recently in leagues at the Newburgh Tarsio Lanes and Kiamesha Lanes.
Twenty-one year-old Durland recorded his perfect 12-strikes-in-a-row on November 21 in the three-person Bruce Perry Mixed league in Newburgh on lanes 25 and 26 using a Storm IQ Tour Pearl bowling ball.
He bowls for the Pogo's Family Pro Shop team with Jason and Danielle Pogozelski.
He has no 800 series to this date.
James is averaging 231 in the Wednesday Men's league at Kiamesha  Lanes and 215 in the Newburgh league.
Durland has been bowling for some 16 years starting out in the Saturday Morning Youth leagues at Kiamesha Lanes and is a 2010 graduate of Monticello High School. He is currently not enrolled in college but attended and bowled for Union College in Kentucky last year.
When asked about how many strikes were in the pocket he stated, "first 11 in the pocket and the 12th strike crossed over exactly the same way my mother shot her first 300."
Single with no children James is employed at Kaz's Wines and Liquor store in the Shop Rite Plaza in Monticello and at Pogo's Family Pro Shop at Tarsio Lanes in Newburgh.
Thirty-four year-old Kyle Matthews scored  his 300 in the November 27 Wednesday Men's league at Kiamesha Lanes on lanes 9 and 10 using a Storm Sync bowling ball.
Kyle bowls with the Ellenville Beer Store and team mates Chris Parken, Charlie Tuttle and Dennis Matthews.
He maintains a 219 average in this the only league he bowls in. To this date he has not recorded any 800 series.
Bowling for some 18 years he reported to us that all strikes were in the pocket.
Single with two children Kyle is self employed.

                                       Malott Wins The
                                       Cheetah Title

In the first of seven telecasts from the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) World Series of Bowling V at the South Point Hotel, Casino and Bowling Center in Las Vegas , Wes Malott last Sunday defeated top qualifier Parker Bohn III in the title match 243-169.
This championship also featured the use of a highly-visible blue oil on the lanes for the first time in PBA history.
To get into the championship match Malott defeated Clara Guerrero 214-208 and Pete Weber 288-242.
Two large splits hurt Bohn early in the match.
The win was Malott's second consecutive title.
The Viper Championship will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. on ESPN.

                                               The Bowling Tip
                                              By Mike Luongo

Bowlers: One of the previous tips was designed to help you achieve the correct body position to properly execute a bowling shot and be able to repeat it.
The week, we will cover the release, information that will help bowlers of all levels.
A properly executed release is possibly one of the most misunderstood parts of a bowling shot. Most bowlers tend to muscle the ball through the release zone, either accelerating or decelerating on the downswing. The proper release for all bowlers, (whether you are a six-year-old with a conventional grip or an accomplished bowler with many years experience) can be executed by letting gravity bring the ball from the top of the swing through the release zone with no interference from your arm or shoulder muscles.
If the ball fits properly, the gravity will take it off your hand at the right time providing your body is in the proper position. Any rotation on the ball should come from your hand only.....not your arm.
Using the proper technique will allow you to get as much rotation on the ball as desired.
Note, however, if your ball does not fit properly, it will require excessive grip pressure to hold on to which will make the release harder to execute.
Gravity can be your best friend or worst enemy depending on how you use it.
