Explosion Catapults B-Mets to 13-4 Win
ALTOONA, PA- The Binghamton
Mets recorded a season-high 19 hits and scored six times in the seventh inning,
en route to a 13-4 win over the Altoona Curve, Wednesday night at Peoples
Natural Gas Field. Jose Reyes went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run while logging
eight innings defensively at third base. Juan Lagares was 2-for-6 with two RBI
and a triple, threw out a runner at home plate and played the full game in
center field. A two-out rally got the B-Mets going in the first. Dominic Smith doubled off the wall in right, scoring Amed Rosario from first. Jayce Boyd then singled to right and Smith evaded a tag at home and scored to make it 2-0.
The Curve answered in the second. Mickey Jannis issued walks to Reese McGuire and Eric Wood to begin the inning. Stetson Allie then doubled to right, scoring McGuire. Jonathan Schwind then grounded out to short, scoring Wood to tie the game at two.
Binghamton regained the lead in the fourth. With runners at first and second, Stefan Sabol singled into center and Jonathan Schwind overran it, allowing Jayce Boyd to score from second. Jannis later drove in a run on a fielder’s choice and Reyes followed with an RBI single, his first hit since rejoining the Mets organization. The B-Mets plated three in the inning and extended their lead to 5-2.
The Curve got one back in the bottom of the fourth on a Schwind RBI single. One more scored in the sixth for the B-Mets.
In Binghamton’s seventh, Boyd had an RBI single, Stefan Sabol smacked an RBI double, L.J. Mazzilli drove in two with a single and Lagares laced a two-run triple. The B-Mets sent ten men to the plate and scored six runs on six hits to extend their lead to 12-3.
Altoona scored in the bottom of the eight on a pinch-hit RBI single from Harold Ramirez. Binghamton added one more in the ninth on a Rosario RBI single.
Jannis (3-7) picked up the win with three runs allowed on four hits and five walks over six innings. Brandon Waddell (5-3) took the loss with five runs allowed on eight hits in five innings.
Boyd went 4-for-5 with two runs, two RBI and a triple, Smith was 3-for-6 with an RBI, two runs and two doubles and Sabol finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs.
Binghamton returns home to begin a six-game series with New Hampshire on Thursday at 6:35 PM. The B-Mets will throw RHP Casey Delgado against RHP Casey Lawrence for the Fisher Cats. POSTGAME NOTES: Binghamton took the series 2-1 and improved to 3-1 in rubber games…relief pitcher David Roseboom doubled in the ninth inning, his first career hit…Amed Rosario extended his hitting streak to seven games while L.J. Mazzilli and Colton Plaia each extended theirs to eight games.
