Davis Belts Grand Slam in Debut
RailRiders Snap Buffalo’s MiLB-Best Nine-Game Win Streak
Buffalo, N.Y. – Ike Davis
bashed a grand slam in his debut as the SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New
York Yankees) smashed the Buffalo Bisons (Toronto Blue Jays) on
Thursday night, 8-1. The RailRiders’ (49-32) fifth straight win was also
their 18th in 23 games. The Bisons (46-35)
lost a nine-game winning streak, the best active run in the minors.
A scoreless deadlock shifted in the fifth.
Donovan Solano pushed the game’s first run across the plate with a single that sent
Jonathan Diaz home. A bruise and a walk later, Davis drove his grand slam over the fence in left-center for a 5-0 advantage.
Aaron Judge lengthened the lead with a two-out, bases-loaded double that plated three in the eighth.
Andy Burns made sure Buffalo avoided a shutout with a two-out solo homer in the home eighth.
SWB starter Phil Coke (4-2)
fired six scoreless innings of two-run baseball for the win. Buffalo’s
Roberto Hernandez (4-4) took the loss. He gave up five runs on three
hits and five walks over five innings
while plunking a batter twice.
The four-game series continues at 7:05 p.m. on Friday as southpaw
Dietrich Enns (1-1, 1.50) faces southpaw John Anderson (1-1, 5.82).
The
RailRiders return home for a seven-game homestand starting on the
Fourth of July against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia
Phillies). The game includes post-game fireworks
presented by the PA Lottery; foam light-up sticks to the first 2,500
fans through the gates thanks to ShurSave Supermarkets; USA-themed
jerseys worn by the RailRiders; and Fourth-of-July hats worn by the team
that will be auctioned off during the game. For
